It's been a bit, but I finally went back to the Toyota dealership for my tranny fluid. I actually JUST hit 60k, I was a bit early with the other maintenance. (Just a reminder, I took mine into Subaru for service and they said that the BRZ has lifetime fluid so they would not do my tranny fluid on the FR-S).

Before heading to the dealership, I did a quick google on WS vs non-WS tranny fluid and it looked like the quick consensus was that the WS was a waste of money and people had concerns with it. So at the service counter, I asked for non WS. They obliged but when I got my car back they let me know that they did the WS (and honored the non-WS price), but that I really should use WS in the car going forward.

True or false?

WS is what the manual says and what you would want if maintaining warranty. It is perfectly fine for everyday use. If you are tracking then you may want to try something a bit heavier duty.

With so many performance shops in the area no idea why you'd want to give a dealer that much money. What are you wanting to get done?

What the hell?! Go somewhere else and ask them just to do the spark plugs, then do fluids yourself. I got my spark plugs done at the dealer for $200 if I remember correctly. Some people have paid $600 because it's labor-intensive, but they quoted me at $200 and I made sure they didn't charge a dollar more. Even after they had difficulty with the hoist since my car is lowered on coils.

I was quoted similar in Virginia. I took it to Pennsylvania and got everything and more done for half the price.
