Are your valve stem caps safe?

I bought these nice looking Subie valve stem caps:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-OEM-...-/151085019145

While I was putting them on, it suddenly occurred to me that it might be easily stolen. Has this happened to anybody here? Just curious.

Yes my old car all the time lol

If you have anything that isn't a standard plastic one a scum bag will probably take them.

Yup, lost my sweet Rays caps that came with the Nismo TE37 bronze wheels on my old 350z. Cost about $70 for another set, since they aren't sold one at a time. Keep the plastic ones and swap out for shows/meets, etc.

Try these... Walmart - $2.48 for 4 aluminum caps in various colors. If someone steals them, your it will probably cost more in gas than the cost of the caps, to get new ones. :-)

use grease with those!!!!

i had a set on a previous car, and they got seized on. i had to use a dremel to cut them off just to check my tire pressure.

i am employed at firestone, every few weeks we get someone in who has metal valve caps on, seized up. they may look good, but unless you maintain them properly they will corrode onto your tpms sensors and more than likely cost you a new sensor. plastic caps wont seize, ever, and are pennies. if not free.

Someone is not checking their tire pressure. If this would be done, say, once a month, for instance, and not tighten them as is they might loose pressure if not tightened securely. Just check tire pressure frequently and don't tighten them beyond 'snug'. They will not thread themselves off.

One time, at a dyno day, I saw an aftermarket stem cap fly off and nail a girl square in the forehead.

On my old WRX I had just put on SSR Comps and within a week someone had taken 2 of them while the car was parked at the mall. I purchased some replacement caps that had an exterior body that would freely turn and you needed a 2-prong cylindrical key that fit in the top of the cap to remove them. Never had a cap stolen after that.

no, because the oem caps are plastic.

the caps in that link are made of a metal that is different than the metal in the oe valve stems. that is where the corrosion comes from.
