Well the base 2.0T Supra has a ZF8, which is nice. It still has a more premium interior and options. I made a list one time of all the standard features of the Supra vs 86, and there is a lot. The Z is more like a Mustang GT; it is a big engine in a cheap car. The Z just doesn’t offer a 2.0T or NA 2.7L V6 or something that starts in the mid-twenties like the Mustang. The Supra is more like the Z4; a premium/luxury car that offers an entry engine and base features.

Admittedly, that won’t make up the bulk of sales or be the deciding factor for most buyers. If most of the sales will be autos because that is the state of American car sales then a good automatic is key. That is where the Supra might be better. I dunno.
Personally, the lack of a manual option is why the Supra is forever off the list.

I think pricing will be a big factor as well, and the number you keep throwing around probably isn't too far off. Also, a lot of people like the looks of the Z better than the Zupra. C&D poll has the Z at 85% to the Zupra's 15%. Last edited by vh_supra26; 03-24-2021 at 01:31 AM. |

All I’m saying is Supra owners might not have any regret no different than how a new Z or a new Mustang might not provide any regret for Z4 buyers. Quote:
I think they are for different audiences with some overlap. The Supra is a cheaper Cayman or Corvette alternative for those that don’t want to move more upmarket. It is also a more premium pony car or Z alternative for those wanting to move upmarket in quality. I wouldn’t compare them head to head, even if buyers cross-shop.

Looks like the 370z enjoyed some pretty high manual take rate. This source claims 46% where manual in 2019.

Yeah we keep going back and forth on this. Regardless of how you and I may feel on the matter the Z and Zupra will be compared to non-stop, and even you yourself said will be cross shopped. Whether or not something is or isn't meant to directly compete with X doesn't mean it won't have an effect on Y. Right, and later I added more onto the conversation. Looks, price, and manual is the deciding factor for me, and probably others as well. I think they are both gunning for the same audiences. Both are turbo six, two seaters and pretty much the same size. Last edited by vh_supra26; 03-23-2021 at 07:20 PM. |

I'm looking forward to it. I would definitely take this over the MKV Supra any day of the week. |

2022 400Z
As a GR Supra owner and a fan of the 370z, The 400z looks more like a refresh 370z. The concern I have with 400z is the auto will not be anywhere as good as the ZF in the Supra if the Q60 auto is used. Are the oil cooling issues fixed? Does the Z still feel like a brute Mustang?

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_S130 They are close enough. I think the $10-15k potential difference in price is a reflection of the premium features, but also the ZF8, adaptive suspension, active diff, etc. Add those to a $35k Z and the Supra and Z would probably be within $5k-7k difference. That is the difference between a premium and economy segment. It is close enough I guess. Apparently the Supra owners have the Z and C8, low and high, to be jealous and have regret. I still doubt it though.
