Never even had the chance...

I was playing some GT6 while the wife was out, and I had to buy a European hot hatch for one of the series. After I made my selection, it made me consider what cars we never got in the states. There are the usuals like the Skyline or S15 Silvia, or the motors like the SR20, but some cars may be less familiar. I know Australia had versions of American brands we never saw in the states. What’s on your list?

I’m not a hot hatch buyer, but if I ever had to be then the Scirocco R would be up there on the top of the list. Wish we had got this gen:

Scirocco was actually a VW mistake. Most people just opted for the Golf. They lost a shit ton of money on it

What? It was marketed way less and was never intended to be a high volume car.

Read about it in evo magazine. Can't remember the whole story but apparently it's a disaster. Something about them committing to a number and not being able to stop production because corporate, and ending up with piles of unsold cars. They can't sell them but they won't drop prices either cause that looks bad so I think they pretty much get built and then crushed. Been a while since I read that piece so I'm fuzzy on details.

In stock form they are quick but when modded like this one they are a VERY quick car

The Barra motor was/is a very strong motor and will take heaps of boost .

Another not so attractive but pretty cool model that never made it our way, the Volvo 480 Turbo. I had one in Italy, same scheme as the black one below. It had a Renault/Porsche built 2L Turbo and a Lotus designed suspension. The only problem was Volvo basically disowned the thing, parts were nearly impossible to find. When the C30 was announced they made no reference to the styling queues from the 480 and only referenced the older P1800ES as the C30's predecessor.
