Personally I don't care about going FI, so the issue in quotes. Maybe a topic for the ones that matters. The cyl walls on the old EJ25 is a different thing. Liners that matters most were much thicker.

First of all, the cylinder liners are thinner so it will be a question how much power the engine can handle going FI. First generation "issue" was the offset connecting rods and now with a back to normal rod design new "issue" will be the thinner liners? Another odd thing is the top speed which remains the same with the previous model. Is it electronically limited (really?) or is the new engine a bit weak top end? Finally, it was mentioned that it'll be offered as a single spec option meaning that we won't get anymore the 86 RC or BRZ RA Japan specs. The first generation BRZ RA spec was available in Europe and you could have a 35 kg lighter car (1202 kg). Compared to the new car weight difference is even bigger in the range of ~70 kg. Torque in new car definitely helps, but it would be better if weight was the same.

I don't think it will be a weaker engine.Overboarding within some specs usually gives more to an engine(torque, middle power etc) without changing it's strength.Crossing that overboard limit line could cause a lot of problems but Toyota/Subaru are oem manufacturers and they do know that limits, even for aftermarket N/A tuning. For those going turbo it could be another story though!!

Oh ok yes my bad. Misunderstood.

Toyota already confirmed GR86 being the entry to the GR world ,so it is expected to be cheaper from the GR Yaris even if the difference is minimum!

Too bad.

They are saying it won’t be compliant with forthcoming European safety regulations without significant re-engineering, hence why it won’t be sticking around for long.

Yes that is sad,i wonder now is it two years starting from now?Or when the first cars come in mid 2022?Because if if it is mid 2022+2years= mid 2024(new safety rules i think they start after June 2024) and we already new the gen2 won't be around for the 2025 model year in Europe. So i suppose is COVID that took the whole plan back and now we only have two years of production!

I was there live at the European presentation. At the presentation of the GR86, I received the first order contract for the first GR86 for delivery by Toyota. I've made a few photos here that you can take a look at.
I also captured the GR86 in a video, you can find the video in my Packeisen channel on Youtube

Pretty cool and congrats on being the first order there!

Is it me or did they erroneously swap Sapphire Blue and Bright Blue haha

Thank you, it is very difficult to get one in 22 as it can only be bought through GR partners. not all Toyota dealers are allowed to sell it. I think there won't be more than 1000 vehicles in Germany by 2024, with the USA and Japan going first. I will develop a lot of clubsport parts for the track tool with friends of my engineers as made in germany, so that the little samurai can have a lot of fun on the racetrack.
greetings Ulli
