Russell has great shot at podium. Maybe even a win but Verstappen will be unbeatable this weekend as he will be so fired up there is no Hamilton in front of him.

Great news for George. Go George Go!

Will be interesting in the next few days on the background story on getting Williams to release him for this weekend.

In other news Mick Schumacher is finally Confirmed at HAAS.

Should be a good show in the coming days with :

  • A new unknown track.
  • 2 new faces racing F1 for the first time.
  • Get to see what Russell can do in a better car.

This is HUGE. George getting Lewis's seat. Taking a contracted driver actively driving for another team. I get that the driver and constructor championship is over, but taking Russell for the spot shows how much faith they have in him. If you watched Drive to Survive, you probably saw it.

Quite the opportunity Merc had fall in their lap to see what they have in George. I don't think he will disappoint. Vandoorne has got to be pissed.

Yeah... Not using your backup driver is a bit of a low blow...

If you were them would you put someone in that you already know and have under contract or, would you take the opportunity to see what someone else might be able to do? Remember, Lewis hasn't signed yet and Valtri has only a 1 year deal.

Nah. Drivers at that caliber should know where they stand with A) the team and B) in relation to other drivers.

I think Vandorne knows he’s a “test” driver and less of a backup.

Rumor has it the Renault engine is still a little stronger then the Honda (at the expense of reliability), this is a high speed course where in a low downforce setup the Red Bull car will be even twitchier and harder to hang onto then before. Look at Monza, Verstappen outqualified by Sainz and Perez with Norris and Ricciardo less then a tenth behind.

Verstappen with a podium will be a feat, not impossible but might be the hardest one of the year for him to get. Russell coming home with a podium should be an attainable goal if he's anywhere near as good as Toto and most of the pundits think he is.

Exactly. Mercedes will almost certainly be miles ahead of the field on the outer circuit. Under normal conditions Russell is pretty much guaranteed to at least finish second.

Nothing is guaranteed in F1, normal conditions or otherwise.
