From memory the article on Mellor's GoAuto was with Matthew Callachor, the Executive Director Sales & Marketing with TMCA, and i'm pretty sure it's just conjecture at this stage.

P.S. If the price does go up, yeah it might suck a little but also consider your resale value down the line which by the way is also not only influenced by the popularity of a vehicle but how much it is sold for in general when new - discounts aren't everything - spoken like a true car salesperson, i know; but it is what it is. Value is, after all, perception vs. risk.

Depends on the exchange rate. At the time of the announcement about prices going up it was around 96 US cents and now it's at parity. If it falls below 95 US cents I wouldn't be surprised if TMCA bump the price up.

Just go and hedge against the aussie dollar - you win one way or another

Also your saying that atthew Callachor, the Executive Director Sales & Marketing with TMCA - Lied to a media outlet!!!!! or the media outlet lied to the public...(both happen all the time).

lol... if i was to worry about resale value i would't by a new car... what is the standard depreciation as soon as i sign the document?

Price going up = only bad things nothing good will come of it.

Umm... it relates to the yen not the usd... and why don't call car prices fluctuate with the raise and fall of the yen? cause all cars have this variable built in the the initial pricing saying the yen is this high... it can drop to this low before we are losing some profit.

Although many multinational deals are done on US dollars, you are correct about the Yen relationship in this example. However, large currency exposed businesses don't just build in a fudge factor and hope for the best, they hedge when setting the price. They are in the business of selling cars for money, not betting on exchange rates.

The USD and YEN are generally positively correlated...
