Phoenix Area Meetup Ideas.
Hello my name is Mike and I have an addiction to my FR-S!
Now that my intro is out of the way I just wanted to see what kind of interest is out there for a meetup of some sort for those of us with an "addiction" to the FR-S/BRZ platform. I have only lived in the Phoenix area since January this year and am still pretty unfamiliar with the area in general but still want to meet new people with similar interests and also see where people take their cars for a little "spirited" driving. Since I am new to the area I would like to get some good suggestions on places to meet, drive, and hang out around here. I also wouldnt mind giving the locals an impromtu parade of cars...especially since i feel like everywhere I go this gar gets attention and lots of people just love seeing them. Once we get some good ideas flowing we can work out a time and place and get a little organization behind a meetup. So hopefully we can get some good representation at a meetup with a good amount of FR-S and BRZ cars and anyone else who would like to meetup. Cheers |

I'm in. I still find myself aimlessly wondering around the 202, then circling back towards home...just to drive.

Easy for us to do with our schedules....where do you find the lots? I almost always hit the chic fila on gilbert after work for brinner....gives me a sprint on the 202 and a stop and drive back down queen creek to the apt.

Just depends, I hit up the loading dock areas of places like Walmart and Target, have only gotten talked to by one security guard one time and he seemed more interested in the car than me having it sideways, I wasnt cutting donuts or anythingjust getting used to getting the rear loose and trying to control it afterwards. I want to go drfiting at the track but I'd be so self conscious I'd probably wreck, so i practice where only the crickets and dust are witness.

Come out to Firebird on Friday. The first 3 turns of the drift track are far away from the walls, and the last one is so big that you'd have to be really out of control to hit it. I went last month, and it was an absolute blast. And no one made fun of my noobishness (to my face, anyway). $40 and you can slide to your hearts content.

Hey Mike, have you found any good spots yet? I'm in the same boat as you. I'd like to take my car to the track but I'm sure I'd just spin it multiple times in front of everyone.
Some how I ended up at 7th ave and Happy Valley on Wednesday night just driving around. I live in south Gilbert. I'm think I have a problem. |

Everyone spins out there. Even the 'pro' guys who were drifting in tandem. Everyone is just there to have fun... no shit talking or anything.

Yep. It is well, well, well worth it IMO.
As much track time as you could possibly want. |

I know you don't need a helmet to do the drags if you're about 14, what about the drifting? Does that require a helmet? I looked on the firebird site but it didn't have much info about the "drift" part of the "drag and drift".

Yeah the website is completely useless.
Yes, you need a Snell 2005+ helmet. Craigslist/pawn shops/motorcycle shop (if you want to buy new) just make sure you tell them it needs to be snell 2005 or newer. I went to get one and and in the search for one my size, wound up with DOT instead of snell. They wouldn't let me run that way, I wound up needing to use my friend's helmet. Then, to make things worse, I left it in my trunk while drifting, and it banged around and something punched a hole in the helmet, so now I can't return it. |

As for other "spirited" roads...my buddy and I frequently hit up the road to Bartlett Lake. There's a couple spots around there that are just about perfect except for the dust and dirt on the asphalt.
The road to Canyon Lake/Tortilla Flats is awesome but there seems to be too much traffic on it lately. |

Once I get my car wrapped I'd be down to go fly around on some dusty roads
