Native Southern Californian here. hate the state, moving to one of those "gun loving fly over states where relatively few people live" because i am a 2A advocate who wants to live in a place where very few people live.

if you don't want to be bashed for liking what you like how about not bashing others because we want something different?
don't worry we are leaving and you can do with the state what you want

Those flyover states also got our president elected. Not so irrelevant are they? I live in California too but in a rural part, my town is changing and not in a good way. Also, the right to bear arms is what makes me proud af to be an American. There's new gun laws also for 2019, making the rest of the U.S. dislike California even more. Trust me I love Califrnia, lived here my whole life, but it's changing...

Not in a flyover State...or is FL?...but NY and CA shouldn't be making the decisions for the rest of the Country.
It's clear by the responses here that not everybody living there thinks that way either. Not to get too political here but that seems
it should be a wakeup call before everybody moves out and all you are left with is "Upper Mexico".

But under this law if he gives you a ticket with the new law code there is a mandatory $1000 fee the court must issue.
The new law also states that no fixing it is required and that no sound testing is required on the part of the officer and on the part of the cars driver.
The point obviously is not to "fix" anything but gobble that money up for the government to spend. Yeah sure a couple guys have a obnoxious exhaust
sprinkled here and there but 95% of motorcycles are the main cause of most of the noise pollution on roads. They should cut to the chase and just "tax"
motorcycles some bogus noise ordinance garbage thing that nets them the extra cash they are seeking and call it a day like they do with luxury tax on cars.

Yes, yes they do! We want that one big earthquake to break you off into the Pacific or at least Mexico to get it over with and annex you guys

I don't think there is a new law. Just a bigger fine for breaking an existing one. People are freaking out because they are caught up in the hype.

Probably because we don't want to cough up 1k for owning an aftermarket catback exhaust, if it's actually being enforced.

Guess we'll wait and see when more people get pulled over.

haha. i am sorry about that. i hit submit and was like "dammit, now im a ****." it is funny to see people dumping their already illegal exhausts. id probably be more excited about it but i just bought a new header this weekend instead of buying one dirt cheap from someone who is all of a sudden afraid of a decade old law.

I believe that the $1,000 fine depends on whether or not your car reads above or below the legal decibel limit. If your exhaust volume reads below, then the fine is around $200, depending on which county you're in.

Either way, it's still a hefty fine for just having a modified exhaust IMO.

I'll share here as well (from Norcal but same laws)

The $202 fine is for CVC 27150. The $1100 is for CVC 27150.3

Just talked to a traffic officer about the changes to the loud exhaust law:

He said the fine is $202 for loud exhaust. He did specifically mention that whistle tips are a $1100 fine (can change depending on the jurisdiction I assume).

The above fines are as of today in Yolo County, fines change periodically so what is mentioned today may be different later this year. Also fines differ based on county/city so these fines may not reflect your area.

As far as enforcement, nothing has really changed. To paraphrase, he said, if he can hear you before he sees you, it's usually excessive. He also mentioned that they go to training periodically specifically for spotting stock vs modified parts.

Just one officer's response though, so take it however you want. I trust the guy, been working with him and the department for 10 years. For the last 4 years I've had my exhaust, I've never had any issues, so I'm not worried.
Again, one officer, one jurisdiction.

Just for shits and giggles, we also talked a bit about loud music, since some people were bringing that up. There are similar laws that apply to that of which you can be fined and receive a point on your license.

Guns don't kill people, idiots with loud exhausts kill people.

Just look at the stats of how many people are killed every year because of the ability for any idiot to get a loud exhaust.

I think that the people that get loud exhausts are compensating for some inadequacy or psychological instability.

Ummm, wait....what....???
