YES. After 38K miles, would buy again.
Where are the other inexpensive lightweight RWD 2+2 sports cars? Oh, there are none. And as a bonus this one still has 10/10 would bang looks. No-brainer. 2013 FR-S FTW. |

Yes, just as soon as they add 50 HP.
(Kidding! Just kidding! This car is everything a sports car should be and inexpensive/reliable enough for daily use without having to park in two spaces like a jerk.) |

Yes I would. My 5 year anniversary is next month. I have not found anything else with the same fun factor to buy.

Would I buy it again? Possibly not.
But thats mostly because I've already bought the car again once. Had a 2015 that was totaled and bought a 2016. already at 20k miles and still get a stupid big grin across my face every time i start her up It's a car I'm keeping as long as possible. |

I would buy an 86 again no question.
I'm over 60k and I loved every mile. Next time I would go for the bad ass BRZ hyper blue ( rally blue color) |

Hit the 50,000 mile mark yesterday. You can't have this much fun with this much reliability for so little money in any other car. You can have more of two out of three of those in other cars with a MAJOR compromise, but nothing will give you more of all three. It's either going to be a LOT more expensive, a LOT less fun, or a LOT less reliable. A well-maintained used Miata may be the one exception, but you're giving up some practicality then. I'm in for the duration.

Yes I would still buy it. I haven't seen any other car with the engine sitting so low. Maybe you'll get something better if you search in the super car territory. It was a dream for me when I started following the Subaru brand and they make it happen.

Ive always had 911's with an MX5 thrown in for good measure and I'll tell you that the 86 is the most fun car out of all. The fastest? No, that award goes to my 911 Twin Turbo. That was an amazing GT car. Ate asphalt as it just wound through the gears and made road trips an amazing experience. However with the need for 100 mph plus to be any fun it had it's drawbacks with such a high limit. Too high actually.
The 86 just ticks all the boxes of what a fun sports car should be. I was in the market for a Cayman and felt the 86 had similar characteristics at a price, both buying and maintenance, that was appealing (30.00 to replace the front grille). Some good, sticky tires, better wheels and a slight drop and I'm a happy guy. Canyon runs are fantastic and some upcoming track days and yeah, happy for sure. If someone complains about the power get a different car...... |
