Steering wheel controls?

Went looking around to see what this Aha! radio thing was and if it gave us a head unit with buttons (it doesn't). The most striking thing I noticed was that the steering wheel has what looks like audio controls on it! Is this another show-car tease?

OH! I would like to transfer steering wheels if they came with controls.

That's the pre-production model BRZ. They had steering wheel controls but that was sacked for the actual production model of the car. Maybe they'll decide to put them back in on the 2014? Doesn't matter though, I'm already enjoying my 2013 while you guys wait for your 2014.

Damn, I would have liked a better head unit... and the knee pads. Oh well, as long as there isn't a 10hp bump in power and better tires or anything.

Ah. Bummer. It's not TOO big of a deal. I am actually waiting for my '13 still. Hopefully it will be here next week. Steering wheel controls are definitly not a deal breaker for me. Along with the knee pads which I would have just replaced with JPM kneepads. It will be interesting to see what the actual confirmed changes are.

I've already replaced my interior with the GT-86 parts, including rear passenger armrest. Now I just wish I had steering wheel controls. If that comes on the 2014 I'll be a little pissed that I have to swap steering wheels to be completely satisfied with my interior.

I would also hope that the updated badging is like what others suggested, just a removal of "Subaru" since North America is the only place to bother themselves with keeping the rear busy.

I'm not sure if this is true or not.
The dealer I've been working with asked me if I would take another color instead since they're having trouble finding a WRB Limited for me.
The color they offered me... a brand new Lightning Red Limited(Sport Tech for Canada) BRZ.

In Canada, we only have a choice of 4 colors.
World Rally Blue, Satin White Pearl, Sterling Silver Metallic and Crystal Black Silica.

So I'm not sure where this random red one is coming from, unless it's a US model... but more color options in Canada would be nice.

^ Interesting - there is no way the dealer will be selling a US model, the manufacturers don't permit that. Subie Canada did say they were considering new colours (note Canadian spelling!) this year.

I loathe the red on this car, I sure hope we also get the Galaxy Blue Silica as an option. Better still would be a few totally new colours.

The dealer confirmed it was 2014 model, arriving soon. Now I'm skeptical.
I'm still sticking with World Rally Blue though even though Galaxy Blue Silica look would look good as well.

Well sent an email to Subaru asking if aha radio function will be available for my 2013 BRZ this is what they said.

"Dear Mr. Pickett:
Thank you for your email received by Subaru of America, Inc. We appreciate you taking the time to contact us.
We want to thank you for reaching out to Subaru, as it relates to your Subaru BRZ and Aha. At this time, we are not offering Aha for the BRZ models.
While we are not aware of future offers at this time, we will forward your suggestion to our Product Planning Department. Such information is reviewed and sometimes used when deciding upon future products.
If you have any future comments or questions, please contact us again.
Sincerely,

Lana Downs

I hope this changes but I feel it's unlikely.

That is your typical tier1 customer service response. Yes, there is no Aha app feature on the current model. That can change. I think we will know more once the 14's are shipping and somebody can confirm if the radios are pretty much the same with the only difference being the 14's have a different model number due to the Aha update.

I guess we will find out sometime in October/November.

as far as i know, 2013 canadian brz are capable of updating HU map firmware form 2011 to 2012, and Aha radio comes with the ride.
you can either pay for it or hack it to have Aha for free (search my previous thread).
so i would think 2014 brz will definitely come with steer mount control.

Price better go up just a bit if there are going to be steering wheel controls, new unit and leather knee pads.

I'm hoping that it won't go up, since I will be purchasing one.
