I have a job that consists mostly of either waiting for somebody to bring me something to sign or dealing with a disaster. The people bringing me things to sign know their stuff so I don't need to fix much and disasters are pretty rare. It may appear that I am constantly here but really it is more like 3 or 4 minutes spurts.

So, does that mean you could be replaced by a rubber signature stamp and your job status changed to "on call" ....... ??

P.S. That's what she said! Still not sure if that comment is temporal or volumetric though...

Things always wait to break until right before/after you push them to production. >

Funny, my experience is that things always break just when you are trying to demonstrate them - long before production

Mine is that they break when least expected but most needed no matter where that is in the production cycle.

Mine is that if they break, I've done my job correctly.

Four day weekend coming up. Was looking forward to just relaxing, but I guess I should get ready for the move instead, since it seems to be approaching at a very fast rate.

Oh, how I yearn for the simpler days.

Back-in-the-day, I was a car radio expert. Yep, two front nuts, one rear support bolt and the radio was out. Disconnect one wire from a hot lead, one wire from ground, two wires going to the speaker, unplug the antennae wire and that puppy was ready to come out.

Oh yes, then search for one of the three AM stations, adjust the volume and you were all set up.

Suction a compass up on the dash, open up a paper map, and you were ready to navigate.

Jump to present times.

Four years ago, I had a Kenwood head unit with a GPS and XM capability installed by in my FR-S by a radio shop. Yep, out of the 100 + stations, I only listened to one ….. Willie's Roadhouse …… and just used the GPS to lead me back home when I got lost.

All was going fine till the Garmin GPS told me it needed to be updated, which I ignored until it would no longer tell me how to get home. So, I reckoned it was time to update the system and maps.

After researching on the Garmin and Kenwood internet sites, it appeared that the process was waaaaay more complex than my electronic capabilities were. So, I took it up to the seller/installer and asked them to do it. The fellow looked down his nose at me and mentioned that the instructions were on-line. I told him that I was stupid that way and would he do it. Yep, 30 minutes and for $35, he said.

So, after 30 minutes, he had my whole GPS system messed up and couldn’t get the GPS to do nutten. He said they would have to send it into their repair shop to get it fixed. Meanwhile, they put my OEM radio back in.

Four weeks later, the call center called and asked me to bring my car in, which I did. They then explained that my unit had been damaged in shipment …… and that they would install a newer, better head unit.

Now the good news is that I have my Willie’s Roadhouse station back and the girl in the GPS will again tell me how to get home.

They didn’t charge me anything and threw in a 4 year warranty (more for them than me, I suspect).

I’m too old for this shit ……

THE END
