ATI Damper doesn't have room. The damper itself is now in front of the serpentine where the new HTD pulley goes.

We've made some good progress lately! We're simultaneously working on the dry sump and the supercharger. The E-Force blower is extremely well documented, it's pretty straightforward.

Get the car up in the air and remove the fascia.

Then install the blower! Since we've also got the front of the motor taken apart for the dry sump installation, we're working a little out of order.

We're using an Aim Channel Expander hooked up to the MXL2 to log intercooler fluid temps on both sides of the intercooler, and intake air temps after the blower, and after the intercooler.

We also got the oil pan back from Dailey, we came up with a new stage arrangement that leaves more room between the pump & subframe for exhaust routing:

We threw on an HKS Single-Exit exhaust to save some weight and make some room back there. You can see we've cut out the spare tire well in preparation for the oil tank, which will drop through the floor a little bit.

Here's a view of the new trunk floor we made that's a "blank canvas" for the new oil system. More updates to follow!

Here's a shot of the exhaust manifold. We tried to find a way to avoid going through the subframe, but it's either that or move all the heat exchangers up front and tube the front end. We'll be boxing the subframe and making a brace to go underneath it, so it'll be plenty stiff.

It's all equal-length (to within 1/16") with stepped primaries. Should perform very well. We're looking at going with a custom exhaust, though, to make room for the oil lines we'll be running back to the tank.

Does the classing allow you to run any sort of rear diffuser or cut the rear bumper up higher? Curious about the aero effects the single exhaust with raised trunk floor.

I've been thinking about this for years. To my knowledge no one has done anything like this to a significant degree just yet. I vaguely remember someone saying there isn't that much to be gained due to suspension parts, differential, etc. Without crawling under there and looking around, though, it sure seems to me like there would be SOME kind of improvement to be had.

Damn, that's interesting header setup. I was expecting to go outside instead of inside route (not sure that's a proper way of saying it).outside setup up might be way longer 4-2-1 header, but thought doesn't require to cut stuff.

But interested to see the progress

Nope, SCCA Super Touring is pretty anti-aero. Can't have a diffuser, can only have tiny splitter & wing, etc.

It's a lot more crowded up front than it seems, when you're trying to hit specific primary and secondary lengths. It's possible to run it up front, yeah, but you'd be leaving a lot of power on the table.

Also, keeping the exhaust totally out of the engine bay like this will help keep temps down.

Update on this long-standing build

Hey guys. I am the owner of the BRZ described in this thread - and have been since it began. I am not actively involved in forums and such but wanted to give a long-overdue update. First, the engineer who posted all the information in this thread moved on some time ago and is now a design engineer with a well-known NASCAR team. A big, well-deserved step up for him.

The build was completed and is hopefully largely stable. Final configuration includes AP brakes front and rear. Bilstein shocks, MoTeC ECU and a Quaife sequential trans. I tried campaigning the car in both SCCA and NASA last year but the switches back and forth were too burdensome. I chose to go SCCA STU exclusively this year. Had a couple of wins and lots of SCCA top three finishes and one track record in 2018.

My major issue before an engine failure was trying to get a driveshaft to work with the Quaife. One-piece shafts simply vibrated too much at speed and I ended up going back to a two-piece - which works fine. I did finally destroy a rod bearing last year and had Phil G at Element Tuning build me a hopefully bullet-proof engine over the winter. The dry sump is still in use and so far this year all is good. There is essentially nothing that can be done power-wise in the build due to STU rules but reliability should be solid now.

So far I have run 4 races this year with a 1st and 2nd (driver error) at MSR Cresson and two 1st place finishes this past weekend at The Circuit of The Americas Hoosier Super Tour event - in the rain. Next up is the Hoosier Super Tour race at Hallett, Oklahoma next month.

Update

2019 was a busy year for my BRZ and me in SCCA. Many ups and downs but that is racing. Highlight: Finished 2nd in the SCCA Hoosier Super Tour National points. Participated in my first SCCA Runoffs National Championship race. 25 of the cars that qualified showed up for a week at Virginia International Raceway. Finished 9th. Decent but not why we do this.
Major testing and development since then including a trip from Texas back to VIR for testing. The car is much improved from October and optimism rules for 2020.
Race plan (all SCCA): Regional race at our home track MSR Cresson Jan. 25 & 26. Hoosier Super Tour races: Circuit of the Americas Feb. 8 & 9; Hallett, OK Apr. 4 & 5; VIR April 18 & 19; Road America June 13 & 14; Mid-Ohio July 18 & 19; Runoffs!! Road America Oct. 7 - 11. May do a couple of more regional races as well - possibly Eagles Canyon here in TX and High Plains in CO.
Love to see any FT86 fans show up if any of these are convenient for you.
