There is almost no chance that both the new BRZ and GR 86 don’t come to Australia. After Japan, we are one of the easiest markets for them to export to, since we are a) a fellow RHD market, b) have a FTA with Japan, c) have safety etc regulations largely in harmony, d) were one of the biggest markets for the gen 1 twins, and e) are a sportscar obsessed market.

Sure, but they likely aren’t ready to release it. Among other things, COVID has delayed lots of automotive production, including new releases. Just gotta be patient.
Yeah I feel the same way - its still MIA is because (as media have quoted) that Toyota want to do a big show and tell with journalists.

I think we can assume that COVID is the reason that didnt happen, and Toyota not yet having the chance to do that big event is probably why journalists didnt drive it at the BRZ event and are still yet to.

Toyota is saving that for themselves. Japans covid stuff is in the tail now, so perhaps another 2 months or so?

At this point in time any salesperson/dealership that says that the 86 isn't coming is completely as accurate as all the internet rumours that says it is. In fact the dealerships that respond "we just don't know" are the only people that are 100% correct right now.
Speculation and clickbait articles are not confirmation so it is all in what you want to believe until some real facts come out.
Dealerships and salespeople would be foolish to rely on the internet rumour mill when selling cars since it is wrong about 90% of the time. The "enthusiasts" that follow things so closely just seem to manage to forget all the bad info and point in joy screaming "see they were right" when the rare real info comes out.

Really looking forward to seeing the GR86 in real metal photos so we can start making some proper comparisons!

I dont think this sales guy knows anything (he also mentioned they have a 2020 in the showroom that's an automatic...when i have been following the exact car for the past year since i saw it when i brought my scion in for service. It is clearly a manual since its on their webpage and i saw it with my own two eyes.

This tells me 2 things:
-Toyota has been strangely super hush about this car and perhaps havent shown it to any dealerships or provided any information to them (in comparison the upcoming 2022 Tundra apparently has been previewed behind closed doors already). If the rumors are true we'll hear nothing about this car until around July.....(and then it'll hit showrooms a few months after that).
-Sales guys dont know jackshit unless they follow the cars on their own time (This isnt new information). Im guessing the salespeople gets their information from the head office. And if nothing comes from that, they dont know anythign. They're just there to sell cars, and they're probably good at it.

And the 86 is a very low volume seller compared to something like the Tundra. The 86 always sort of gets pushed to the back of the line. I’m really excited for the 2nd gen though, and I hope it sells very well out of the gate. It could convince Toyota and Subaru to make some special editions. Like a real STI version.

My guess is that the camo wrap is secured on those sharp corners near the headlights/front hood crease/ front bumper corners. The spindle grill similarity is impossible to unsee now.

Actually it's Toyota doing all the trolling. Because they hop on this forum once in a while to laugh their asses off at all the trolls who make a claim for every little bit of speculation that lands on the internet. "Lets put a Lexus style grille cover and see what happens, LOL!"
