It starts and stops automatically, I have it wired in to the vehicle power. It records constantly and overwrites the oldest *tame* stuff on the card, It keeps high gforce events longer as they may be important. You can power it at all times and put it into "parking mode" where it will only record if it senses motion also, but i haven't experimented with this mode.

Parking mode is awesome. You should try it out.

Gotta say I am pretty blown away by how well designed the interface and software is for that thing. Pretty simple and intuitive but seems capable. I think I might pick one of these up!

How do you get the files out of this unit?

Is there a USB port so you can just connect a laptop or do you have to pull the SD card every time - if so, is this a simple operation?

I'd be interested in archiving some of the data, want to know how easy this is facilitated!

Thanks

Theres a micro SD card in the camera, and they supply you with an SD card adapter and a usb card reader. Just pop the card out of the side of the camera, put it in your computer and you can pull the recordings directly off the card.

Sorry to spam quote everyone, but since this product has no authorized retailers in the U.S. I figured I'd ask where you got yours and if you recommend the retailer. Thanks!

EDIT: Ugh, my bad

I believe this was the place several people have bought from. I will order from them, seems ok to me!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-BlackVue...item1c278bdf4c

EDIT (redux!): I also emailed them to ask how much it is with the Power Magic Pro included (prevents the parking mode from completely draining your cars battery, seem a wise investment)

I got mine on eBay months ago. Find a seller with good feedback and a history of selling them.

On a somewhat related note, does anyone know how much a new rear-view mirror costs?

Interested in possibly integrated the BlackVue into the mirror so it is less obvious (less likely to make for a smash-and-grab), but I do not want to screw up my factory mirror Maybe best to buy a new one and screw that up first!

Unpack this file and run it on your PC. It will put a file on the SD card. Set the time ahead, say 10 minutes. Get out to your car, reinsert the card and when the clock matches the time you selected power up the camera. It will say "setting the time".
