I read a article about subaru ecu's that say subaru ecu's after 2008 have more delay in close loop to open loop transition and they try to limit emissions and fuel consumption .

This is true and Subaru actually was mandated in 2004 to start applying these techniques by the EPA. In 2004 they had a hell of a time getting the 2004 WRX to not detonate when coming into boost because they were required to run stoich for a period of 2 seconds while at 13+ pounds of boost.

When 2004 arrived and they released the STI, this is when the WRX became a "second class" vehicle under the Impreza lineup and under the EPA rules and regulations were required to run stoich for those 2 seconds. This was not a problem in 2002-2003 because the top of the line Subaru was a WRX at that time.

Now with the new 15 WRX it runs in closed loop for even longer but with better A/F ratios, though still not ideal. We are actually tuning the new 15 WRX to run closed loop 100% of the time now, so we can obtain a more accurate and repeatable A/F ratio.

This is now something we are testing on the BRZ/FRS/86 platforms for improved response, and more consistent A/F ratios.

My FSI powered GTI ran closed loop all the time. Made tuning fairly simple and "safe" even at 500hp. Just turn the boost up, check timing pull and go... *i do not recommend this* :-)

Are you using an oem sensor for this, or 0-5v input from an external wideband controller ?

I think running 100% in open loop mode is the best way for targeting afr and zeroing CL/OL delay

We have rescaled the front the wideband to closely match the Innovate Wideband O2 in all our tunes. We then use the front wideband for controlling closed loop conditions. Once again as we have stated, this is still something we are testing out right now. I have been running this setup on my daily driver for about 3 months now, refining it each day.

Need to def give @DeliciousTuning a shout!

Flash and go file is absolutely amazing! Car feels very smooth with his tune! Midrange, the car wakes up real quick even under no boost. Car idles like a champ and have no issues with the file what so ever. Most interesting thing is that I went from 12psi to 8psi WOT and have noticed quite the difference in a good way. Much smoother, pulls harder, constant pull even until red. I guess more boost isn't always the way to go! Thanks Bill!

I have just purchased a Tomei EL header. Will I need an update? If so, is the car in any danger if I do take it out for a spin?

You might want to include what kit you have and any other mods so they can give you a more informed answer.

No danger, but you would need an update to utilize the EL's extra HP. If you still have a update left.

The Flash & Go will adapt to make sure the tune is perfectly safe to run and will gain a little power on its own. However, if you want to take full advantage of the potential gains on the table, it'll likely need an update. Which kit are you running again?

Sincerely,

Zach

If you're on an Innovate/Sprintex kit, you're actually most likely on a completely different tune than the Flash & Go. PM me directly with your Dongle ID and we can take a look. Luckily for you, the Tomei EL does actually have some nice potential on the Innovate kits. I'd keep the stock airbox and not install the intake, as we've seen that it heat soaks quickly and tends to kill power.

Sincerely,

Zach
