Just watching the recording now. That's a miracle if I ever saw one.
Would have hit a few marshals if the front had made it all the way through. And oh boy was it close. To demonstrate how close it was, Grosjean got out on the far side of the barrier and lept back on the track over the barrier. If that happened, there would have been a hell of a lot more problems to solve very quickly and less people to do it... |

Why isn't there rows of tires pushed up against those two barriers on either side of the track, especially considering their outward jutting angle?

With a hat tip to J. B. Hinchman, inventor of the racing drivers suit in 1925.
I really thought there was no chance of survival when the car exploded, never imagining it could happen in a modern F1 car. It's miraculous that he survived and didn't even break a bone. https://apnews.com/article/sports-ba...bef9756c6ec33e |

I'd want something crushable like foam used in NASCAR's safer barrier, tire barriers are for the local kart track that's not able to spend tens of thousands of dollars per year maintaining and keeping a more advanced barrier up to spec. |

Because the most likely collision would be a shallow angle skim, not a near head on like we saw.
You don't want soft tire barriers on the straights because of how those behave. Much better for the car to lose energy sliding along the barrier than coming to a sudden stop when the soft tire wall grabs the car. |

Halo : I always saw it as being an ugly necessity, but after yesterdays test I see only the required installation and as a spectator viewpoint we can still see the drivers in their machines.
It actually was effective a second time in this race when Lance’s car flipped. We see the car balancing on it before it gets picked up, Lance had to wiggle his way out of his Belts & squeeze by the Halo. Not sure if the marshals would have an easy time if they had the responsibility to get him out if he would have been unable himself. Obviously we cannot foresee what could happen in every accident, some get lucky… Another Shot of RG last year qualifying looking out from his Halo into the hairpin turn .(Taken on June 7, 2019 - D500 320mm ) |

This is a good image to get an idea of how Grosjean managed to escape from the car.
The first pictures I saw of the aftermath from the trackside view, it looked like there was literally no space to get out of the car Seeing the halo at work, I like to think that Bianchi indirectly saved Romain's life. |

Drama as the season is ending.
Someone is about to be handed the chance to drive the most competitive car in Formula 1 His replacement for the weekend has not been announced yet. Candidates rumored to be are: Stoffel Vandoorne George Russell Nico Hulkenberg I hope Russell gets the chance, if not Nico. And HAAS confirms Mazepin for 2021. |

Really hoping Russell gets the chance, although Vandoorne getting the nod and doing well would put him back on the F1 radar after the trashing he got from Alonso.
