86 vs. Mustang (v6)

I've been collaborating a string of information on both sides and their related arguments... All of this usually happens on /o/, which is an anonymous board for all suspected underage bench racing ricers and anti-asian rednecks. This entire argument happened shortly after that one magazine released a comparison review of brz, frs, genesis, gti, mustang on the willow track.

"Rustang steve diehard fanboys" argument vs 86:

• overpriced (25k) "can buy a mustang and blow rest of the money on hoes and booze"
• can't even outrun a civic si
• miata corners better
• prius tires for $25,000
• slower on the track
• "Oh look a RWD TC"
• "Handling is not synonymous with Cornering, therefore, Mustang is better."
• "slow-60 is laughable and on par with hyundai tiburon"
• can be beaten by a v6 camry
• v6 mustang "out performs it" in corners
• v6 mustang handles "just as well"
• "How are all them driving feels to look at someone's tail light your entire life, f*gg*t"

"die hard 86 wapanese fanboys" counter argument:

• they're both the same price after mustang adds the track pack
• mustangs depreciate faster than fergie on her world tour
• 86 is the better platform to work with in the long run
• bloated pigfat 3600 lbs
• terrible mpg
• still can't turn
• mustang's speed can't top 113 mph, going any faster will blow the drivetrain.
• "top speed of a yaris: 131 mph. Have fun being beaten by a pleb-tier car"
• everyone's mom, dog, aunty and grandma has a mustang. It's dull, pointless and has no personality. Great grocery getter.
• mustang absolutely needs 'track pack' to be able to turn and compete against the 86

It's fun to watch these guys go at it and to tell you the truth, I bet they don't even own the cars that they're "defending".

I own both. The Mustang is a torque monster compared to the 86. The chassis needs tons of work in the mustang to get it even close to the 86. It feels like a heavy boat compared to it. But, the mustang can brute force itself around a track I've read.

I couldn't justify the V6. GT (or higher) or nothing. We'll see what bomb Ford drops with the next gen. If they can lose several hundred pounds and have a decently sorted rear suspension, it'll be even more of a monster than it is now.

Truth be told, I'm a little tempted to not get any car at all and wait and see what happens in the next couple of years. But at the same time, the FRS/BRZ is pretty much exactly what I want anyway, so I don't mind the large power deficit. That's what aftermarket is for anyway.

I also own both a Mustang and BRZ and love both, but frankly would give up my BRZ sooner than my Mustang GT if I had to. Thank goodness I don't have to at this point. Maybe if the BRZ had some more torque I might feel a little differently. Oh, and I own a Miata too, that would be the last car in my garage to go. Just not sure what the point was of the OP besides just being a troll with too much time on his hands.

Hahaha wow. I was never a Ford fan, growing up with a couple Camaros. Now I actually like the V6 Mustang, just not enough to buy one. When the Mustang comes out with IRS and loses the rental-car interior it'll be a contender for my garage but until then, no thanks... If I want "cheap speed" I'll get a used sports car, not a new one.

The Mustang GT looks great on paper (420 hp, v8) until you actually drive one. It's a large heavy car and you feel its weight and size when you drive it. It's too large/heavy to be a sports car IMO, more of a touring sports coupe. The other issue I had with it was the manual gearbox, which was clunky and not that precise.

I can see how some people could overlook all that because of the power (and the 5.0 sounds great too), but it wasn't my cup of tea. For me, a sports car is nimble, lightweight, and low-slung. The 86 is down 200+ hp, but it was the more rewarding drive.

Right now FRS winning in the looks department abd wow factor. This year's minor mods are perrin pulley and K&n Filter 5 axis spoiler and beatsonic antenna, 2013 is Klutch tires and rims, 2014 exhaust, 2015 Avo turbo kit. I wonder which car will still be more fun to drive and will hold its own against many of the current haters. This is going to be an exciting project for me.

I think the biggest problem with this whole argument of the 86 vs Mustang is the simple fact that EVERYONE (ALL of those magazines and youtube "car reviewers" included) is comparing two completely different cars.

86/FR-S/BRZ = SPORTS Car

Mustang V6 - GT - GT500 = MUSCLE Car...

They are NOT in the same class. PERIOD. The Mustang was originally designed as a MUSCLE car. NOT a sports car. And the latest gen (actually 05+ really) was re-designed to give re-birth of the muscle car (Ford themselves made that statement... google it, it's out there somewhere).

The new Mustang IMO is fantastic muscle car. Even the V6. I've spent time on the track in the V6 and had seat time in the GT on roads. Both are loads of fun to drive. There's nothing quite like mashing the throttle and experiencing stupid amounts of power, even if it doesn't "feel" like it's going fast. On the track it's absolutely ridiculous. I only drove the V6 on track and the rear suspension can barely handle the 300 hp... I can't even imagine the 420 hp of the GT on the same set up. It's absolutely pointless. BUT, it wasn't designed to go fast around a corner. It was designed to be a cheap drag/light to light racer. And it does that VERY well.

The FRBZFT86TOYBARUION (So many names) is probably the greatest sports car designed in the last 10 years if not longer. I spent a solid 3 hours on track driving a stock FR-S and it is absolutely incredible. There isn't a car on the market IMO that delivers that kind of precise handling and grins for less than 30K. And I would even go so far as to say there isn't a car on the market under 60K that is anywhere near as fun on a track (I know the MX-5 is great but I just prefer the FR-S).

The bottom line is, they're just cars. Much like clothes, or tattoo's, or toothpaste... everyone has a preference in which they use. Just because mine may be different then yours, doesn't mean that you're right and I'm wrong. It just means you have different views, wants, needs or a preference. These kinds of arguments are meant to happen while :happy0180:
