My oil pressure at start-up is 100PSI and it drops to 11 PSI at idle after the oil warms up to 200 with an outside temperature in the high 90's. On the interstate at 70MPH, my oil temperature runs 203-206, never higher than 210 but that is running above the posted speed limit. On the interstate, my oil pressure runs at 40 PSI at about 2400 RPMs. I'm using 0W20 oil. In town my oil temperature drops to 195 and my pressure runs 12-15 PSI per 1000 RPMs. I have the Subaru oil cooler sitting under the oil filter.

I changed to 5w-30 Mobil 1 the day before my first track session. Engine feels way smoother with the 5w-30. Temps were normal. If the 30w helped who knows, I don't have an oil temp gauge.

Oil Pressure Range

Today at the racetrack - 78F ambient temp, 243F oil temp (running hard), JR OC, Motul 300V 5w30, Tracspec hood louvers, 39psi oil pressure and only moved 2-3 psi when I started shifting earlier...not great. No issues but I'll talk to @Element Tuning at the end of this season about engine work.

Have you thought about running a 40 weight oil? I thought I remember seeing Element recommending that a couple of years ago.

What would be general the consensus on Motul 300V oil weight for track use?
0W20? 5W30? 0W30/40?
From what I've read from this thread 0W20 does not maintain Oil Pressure where it needs to be when tracking on S/C car, so would it be better to run 5W30 or 0W30 or 40?

I have JRSC with Cooler with Delicious tune with probly around 250+whp on 93.

Thanks for the input!

Yes, thanks, just need to talk to @Element Tuning first to understand what I should do and when.

Answer: For track purpose, 5W40 & 10W40 will help with maintaining oil pressure for your boosted setup. The 5w vs 10w will be based on your geographical location/winter temperatures.

I run Redline 10w40 as there is no snow in the SF Bay Area, an ester based oil, and much higher temperature resistance to shear. Most individuals recommend Motul 300V; however, Redline is easier on my wallet and i'm not setting record lap times. Additionally, another popular/cheaper oil is Shell Rotella T6 among the Subaru WRX/STI community. Now i'm not sure how it performs on FA20, so you'll have to research that.

My BRZ was tuned by @Elite Performance,~ 255whp on their Dynapack - 91 pump.
- JRSC > JDL UEL Headers > Motive Overpipe > HKS Double Resonated Frontpipe > OEM Midpipe > Greddy SP Elite Axelback.
- Perrin NA oil cooler (Setrab 13 Row) + Stock Radiator.

Early June at Buttonwillow on a 107F ambient, I hit 277F oil and 244F coolant. Data captured via Aim Solo DL.

**Things to consider when running a thicker oil:
- "40" is thick and will not provide maximum protection upon startup vs OEM 0W20. (Not good for daily driver or if your commute is a short point A to B on daily basis)
- On the other hand, much better protection at higher temperatures and oil pressure.
- Noticeable decrease in MPG.

For information on oil viscosity see below link:
http://ferrarichat.com/forum/faq.php...tor_oil_basics

Current oil interval change - 2,2xx/3,000. I will have Blackstone Labs do the analysis on my Redline 10W40.

Edit: Looks like homework has already been done. See below link:

Spoke with Phil from @Element Tuning - will get my engine built this Oct/Nov, also add transmission cooling. Don't want to count on luck with 39psi oil pressure near redline, for 15-30 minutes at a time, 80-90 times per year.

UPDATE: My guardian angel helped me evaluate two builders, and, while both have impressive credentials and would have been perfectly good choice, I've selected Outfront Motorsports in CA to build the 2015 motor I just bought.

MaxTow (GlowShift) Oil Pressure Gauge

Just installed a MaxTow MT-WDV04 Oil Pressure Gauge in my 13 BRZ and was highly surprised at the low readings. Any one else seeing pressures this low with hot 0w20 oil on a stock block?

Idle @ 160F = 10-15 psi
Idle @ 200F = 1-2 psi

5k @ 160F = 40-50 psi
5k @ 200F = 25-30 psi

Tried the sensor in the oil gallery with an adapter and also in the stock idiot light sensor location without much difference.
Running Subaru 0w20 Full Synthetic with 60k miles on a rebuilt short block (replaced at 50k).
Running Perrin CAI, PLM Long Tube Header, Overpipe, Hi Flow Front Pipe all Wrapped, Q300 cat back and Stage 2 OFT EL Tune.

Initially yes, started at max scale (over 100) on a 40F day and slowly came down after warm up and then lower yet after a spirited test drive.
