A friend of mine tried to do the signal cutouts and ended up having asymetric patterns
Well, I gave it my best shot... I didnt end up with asymetric cutouts, but the taping could have definitely gone better. Is there some kind of professional tape that makes perfect lines?

I had some Rona green painters tape laying around... I thought I did a decent job with the cutouts, but the tint "bled" through the lines in some spots... oh well...

It came out ok... Not perfect, but idk I guess we can let the pictures speak for themselves.

I used 4-5 coats of Red Duplicolor Metalcast, and 2-3 coats of Duplicolor Acrylic Clear Coat. I also used some autobody grade wax and grease remover I had laying around from a previous project. However, I didn't bother to scuff up the housings... Others seem to have no problems, but I guess only time will tell...

All taped up... Should have taken more time during this step. Oh well...

Right. After a few light coats of Metalcast.

Couple coats of clear, and after drying. Color came out OK!

Redid mine last night as they had faded over the last summer. Decided that I was going to do it heavy and proper this time so I used a whole can of VHT nightshade red, and then an entire can of Spraymax 2k (which is by far the most vile stuff I have ever come across, even with a proper respirator on) Turned out great. Bit of orange peel but that sanded and buffed right out.

Most of these "spray jobs" look much better than I thought they would... cool!!

I am a sh!t handyman, so bought Valenti's myself (and I love the shape of the lights - especially at night). But had I known about this first I probably would've gone this route!

@joeag: Look great! I'm tackling this soon. I want to go with the same cutouts as you since my reverse lights are where the stock signal lights are. (Diode Dynamics Tail as turn module). I'll let you know how mine turns out.

If you are going to mask off a section to keep it clear the best way I have found is to pick up a roll of pinstriping tape. Gives a perfect edge and then you can overlap with the painter's tape a little off that edge.

1 can of each is perfect (use it all) Id wait about 30 minutes between the last coat of base and the clear.

I used Frogtape - Delicate surface to mask off my area and got really clean lines. I'll share my entire process once I take more pictures after the clear dries. Just a thought, but I think using electrical tape would give you really smooth and crisp lines.

This is post redding, and pre-clear

Can I use any read spay paint to do this? Or does it have to be a transparent tinting color?
(Metalcast not available from Dupli Color in Europe as far as I can tell).

Definitely not, you need a transparent paint.

So Metalcast is a dedicated tinting paint?
