Wrong. The link I gave is the announcement. I have one on preorder. Or more accurately I am on a waiting list to preorder.

U.S. Hakone shoppers should have loads to choose from if availability becomes anything like the TRD SE. Do a search on new TRD's and you'll see they're everywhere and heavily discounted with $2,000+ customer cash this month despite being a limited edition.

In the U.S., it might pay to wait to buy Hakone vs. early adopter and the prospect of confirmed info on the mythical 86 v. 2.0 coming by next year making the choice tougher but discounts bigger on 86 v. 1.0.

What do you plan to do with your lava car assuming all goes well?

I can't imagine a trade in is worth it unless you manage to bend them over.

It will be worthless as a trade in. My cars usually are because I put so many miles on. It is almost worth the hit to see the look on a saleman's face when you start talking trade in, they ask how many miles on your 3 year old car and you say "Oh about 150,000". The miles I need to drive have been greatly reduced for the last two years but the car is still a mega mileage highway veteran.
The original plan was to sell it for trade in value to my Grandson but his parents have pretty much vetoed that idea due to insurance costs (he is getting his dads old Mazda 5 instead).
All that said I will probably still just trade it in and wave as they ship it off to auction since private sale to save a couple of thousand bucks is jut not worth the hassle to me. Once I know for sure that I can get a green one I may put some feelers out to see if I can sell it easily through private sales but will cross that bridge when I get there.

If you look at the other special editions though you will find very few.
I did a search for the TRD and found 62 of them. One was discounted. It is just spring in most of the USA so sales for these are just picking up. I would not jump to conclusions that they are not selling well as they are only in the middle of the model year.

Cargurs shows 601 new TRD's available nationwide today but that will certainly decrease this month with $2,000 cash back for the first time, $3,000 in some regions kicking in extra cash and combined with dealer discounts, there are a few within 100 miles of me available for $29K +/-. Good price for the content and segment of affordable sports cars.

Yeah, seasonality is a factor in sports car sales and this weekend should be big given the hefty incentives and days of sunny mid-high 80° starting today. Yesterday I saw two 86's with temp tags (not TRD's). Impressive how beautiful they are after all these years and your Hakone should raise the bar even higher, congrats!

That's pretty much me. It's always fun to watch the sales guy try to be diplomatic about the value of your used car (the last one I traded was very close to 300K miles). Haven't traded one in a while though because I've handed them down to kids or relatives.

The last one we traded was our 10 year old (at the time of trade-in) Chevy Astro with 250,000+ miles on it. It ran great except for a slip in second gear. It also looked great from the outside, not a single ding, but the inside headliner was doing that drapey tent thing that headliners used to do before they all because formed mouse fur.

The dealership went through all the motions and they came back to say they would be able to give us $2,500 for it "in trade".

Salesman: Well, it is a little high mileage but the AC blows cold, so the appraiser sasy we can give you $2,500 towards the new one you want.

Me: (Literally I laughed)

Salesman: That's the best we can do.

Me: Oh that's OK. I'm good with it, if you want to pretend that's what you are doing, I'll pretend I believe it.

Salesman: (Stunned look for about 10 seconds, then he laughs).
