wrecked FRS

no, not mine. But those of you that know how much a totaled FRS can really cost, id like the information.

I would like to toy with the idea of a boxer engine on a different car, and although people are selling the engines, i just would not want to go fetching all the parts needed.

Any idea if the insurances are letting you buy the cars back, how much they are asking.

I have seen copart.com but they are crazy, plus i dont have a license...

If there are salvageable parts I don't think the insurance company lets you buy it for next to nothing. That usually happens when the car is old and a piece of junk.

If the engine/trans are practically new and worth thousands of dollars, I imagine they would want a significant cut of that by salvaging the junked car themselves.

I came in this thread thinking I would be seeing photos of wrecked FRS/BRZ.

I was deceived.

They call it owner retained. You don't actually buy it back. First you have to assume that the car owner and the insurance company agree on an amount to settle. Then if the owner wants to keep the salvage the insurance company will deduct an agreed price from the original agreement and just give the owner a check for that amount and the owner retains the car. Usually the insurance company will be quite generous in making the deal pretty sweet because then they can close their file and not have to get involved in selling the salvage. Be aware of pre-existing towing and storage charges that have built up as you will be on the hook for those unless they have been specifically agreed on.

There was a guy looking to sell his that he wrecked, it was really trashed, interior and I'd say ~80% of the drivetrain was useable (radiator and accessories were probably gone). I believe he was asking ~$11k; http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27472

If you're looking to throw a boxer into something I wouldn't bother with an FRS/BRZ, the FA20 is still too new, you'd have better luck with an older Subaru motor (already turbo'd making 250+ hp) or Porsche/VW, they'll all be much cheaper and with much more support.

10k, lol. thats too much even for a parts car. true that you can make more by parting out, but still. even funnier.

but not really to turbo the engine, just want something different.

Try bidding that on the subaru? Idk the car had like 447 miles brand new engine. It's like if you can get it for the right price... You can make money selling the parts seperate, too. The wing, mirrors, rims, tires, navigation, dash, Subaru Logos... It can pay for itself for the right price + You get the Engine You wanted.

Smile My Sad Day for my FR-S

Insurance company decided that it would be too expensive to replace doors, airbags, seat airbags and cut and weld into the frame to try to fix it. They actually gave me a fair price for the TOTAL LOSS.

Now for the only good news...Found another Firestorm FR-S replacement that will be here in one week!
