Ok made the commitment today to make the change. No going back now. Items done so far.

Cut the 4 wires for the backup camera from the 28 pin connector and wired into the 5 pin connector on the new radio.

Cut the remote amp on wire from pin 9 of the 28 pin connector and relocated to pin 8 of the 10 pin connector.

Spliced the accessory power wire to the Aux unit assembly pin 5 of the 8 pin connector and pin 1 of the 28 pin connector.(this is suppose to be an ign signal)

Added a ground to pin 1 of the 8 pin aux unit assembly.

This has it working along with the backup camera, Satellite radio, radio, BT streaming, STARLINK Apps.

I still need the wire harness and usb plugs from the 2018 to plug into the aux unit assembly. This should get Apple car play working. GPS antenna. Plastic trim piece. Steering wheel controls from a 2018, this hopefully will get the steering wheel controls working.

The microphone assembly from the 2018 is different (it has 2 mic’s) but it works with the 2017 mic with no changes.

This radio has retained accessory so it does not shut off for a couple of minutes when you turn the car off. It needs a ground signal from one of the door courtesy lights. This plugs in to pin 4 of the 12 pin connector.

Update, it is all working. I will do a separate detailed post with the wire diagrams. It is well worth it if you can find a totaled car and take the parts from.

I have a 2013 BRZ limited. While it's been in the shop, I've been driving a 2018 legacy and love the Android Auto function. Would love to upgrade my head unit.

I'm guessing your 2017 had steering wheel controls already, so you just needed to ensure the new controls worked.

Did you post a full thread with steps, images, and wiring diagram?

I do not have a picture of the back with the needed wires.

Go here and there are links to the WDM that should explain everything.

I'm getting a 2018 Limited OEM head unit for free and I want to install it in my 2013 Limited. Glad I found this thread! GREAT Info! I'll be able to pull a lot of the items described in the thread from the donor 2018.

Really want Android Auto in the car.

was there any weird mapping of the buttons? I wanted to try using the 86 TRD edition wheel.

on a 2016 pin 8 is power antenna where would I relocate for amp

I installed the 2018 radio into my 2016 it works all but the door speakers I think it might be due to the amp wiring (the fuse is good) any thoughts?

I've got the same issue. I got everything working in my 2013 except the low end/bass.

I originally upgrade to a 2018 Non-Navi radio and got them working, but after looking at tons of wiring diagrams, I was having a heck of a timing finding the AMP trigger. Finally found it on one of the smaller connectors. I did use the AMP by pass method and that worked.

These are factory radios. No mapping available, they are designed to work together. You will have to compare the TRD controls to the others to determine if they are different.
