FWIW I run to a minimum weight for my class, so I run with all the trunk junk, sub-5 lb. battery, 2-piece front rotors, catless header, empty washer reservoir, around 55 lb. off the nose of the car, still ~53.5F/46.5R.

Just wish they'd make a shorter-wheelbase version with rear wheels moved forward ~10". Or same wheelbase with both fronts and rears moved ~4" forward. That would give it a decent 50/50 - 52/48 F/R weight distribution for an FR car. Also, it looks frankly ridiculous having the rear wheels shoved way far aft, as if that's what people who miss the Scion tC might want!
For NASA TT, I remember some guys needed to ballast to meet weight. Apparently weight lifting plates fit well into the spare well and could be secured down pretty easily. Sucks to have to add weight but at least there’s an ideal place to mount it!

Agree it’s not worth adding weight to try to improve the weight balance. It was more of if the change from the 1st gen bothers you, there are useful ways to bring it back inline with the 1st gen (especially if you value having a spare). For me my BBK prevents me from using the spare anyway so I deleted my spare.

Agree it’d be great if they offered a 2 seat SWB version of the car.

Yea not when you compare MT to MT for the same trim:

EDIT YEP I WAS WRONG. Looks like I’ve had the 2815 lbs stick in my head for a long time and I misread the chart I linked

Fixed:

2020 limited MT: 2798 lbs
2022 limited MT: 2835 lbs

37 lbs.

Not to mention, on the street or for the average HPDE driver, I seriously doubt you'd even notice the small change in weight distribution by adding the "trunk junk" back.
I've spent a lot of time in shifter karts, placing ballast and changing set ups. I know these minor things may seem ridiculous to many but I don't care. Even just for my piece of mind, mods will be made and so will mistakes.

You're looking at 2019 "premium" weight vs. 2022 limited.

From your links to Subaru brochure data:
2019 Limited MT: 2798 lb
2022 Limited MT: 2835 lb

Difference = 37 lb

Closer to +40 lb. heavier than +17 lb.

Car and Driver "as-tested" BRZ Limited weights:
2017: 2777 lb.
2022: 2843 lb.

Difference = a lot more...

It's a heavier car despite the removal of the ~26 lb. spare tire

In addition to that, the weight claims from the manufacturer have never stood up to people placing these things on scales. Below is a good example, with the gen 2 coming in at 2744 with low fuel and empty trunk.

Gen 1's came in at constant low 2700's and high 2600's. Anthony (who gave his BRZ the biggest diet on this forum) is a good example and had his car weigh in at about 2680 prior to any modifications.

Not a good idea to mix sources... Brochure weights should at least be somewhat consistent in reporting weights at a given fuel level. But I usually just go by Car and Driver as-tested weights to be sure...

That 2744 weight at 1/4-tank and with "trunk junk" removed is consistent with the brochure weight of 2815 lb. for the Premium model, minus 60 lb. of fuel and 11 lb. of trunk junk. But *damn* at that weight distribution, 56.3% front... We are verging on pickup truck territory here, way worse than modern nose-heavy V8 musclecars...

Again you have to be consistent with fuel level. My '17 PP, totally stock with full fuel was 2820 lb. My minimum competition weight over the years was ~2665 lb...

Wow I’ve had that 2815 number wrong for a long time then.

You're really stretching here. The Gen 1 and Gen 2 have effectively the same weight distribution.

Here's a 2013 (I think Limited?) model in comparison from Vorshlag. 3/4 tank of gas and includes a spare

55.9/44.1 F/R distribution. Drop the spare and remove some gas and you'll get to the same distribution as a Gen 2. I'm really not sure how it's any worse than Gen 1.

It's close but from what I've seen, the new car is about 0.5% worse. Which wouldn't be a big deal except that it was already so bad at ~55/45... Basically the new car added ~65 lb. of weight and then tossed the spare to keep overall weight gain ~40 lb., but with *slightly* "worse" weight distribution.

Again, not a huge deal except I would have loved to see it move in the other direction...

Still number 1 car on my list of new cars I would buy.

Comparing a pure race machine with a wheelbase shorter than most people are tall isn't really a good comparison to a street car.

I bet if you did a blind test with the car with and without the trunk junk, you'd never know.

Probably but I intend to find out. Can I just do that, please? I'll follow the 86 platform experts around here but I'm also going to do my own thing. Stupid or not because it makes me happy lol.

It makes complete since to try stuff out on your own. That way you know if it works/makes a difference or not.
