Sounds like they benchmarked the Hankook RS4 and they think they exceed its grip by a slight margin (0.4-0.6s they quoted -- but no indication if that was per min of lap time or over an 8:40 nurburg ring lap) and the wear is also slightly better.

They didn't say much about heat cycling performance - their testing has been endurance racing for 8+ hour stints. They did say they expected this to heat-cycle out before wearing out. So for HPDE, it seems to me tire life will be dictated by heat-cycles and not much different than the RS4.

To me, it seems hard to justify the 35-40% price premium for a very slight bump in lap time (maybe wear?) over the RS4 (~$237 vs $173 for the RS4 in 245/40-17), unless you are using it in competition.

Seems like a very good tire for endurance racing, but maybe not a big gain for a HPDE tire.
Sat in on the webinar too, seems like it will easily out last an RS4 with quite a bit more grip. RS4's heat cycle out before end of life, but from what i've heard from chump car/WRL drivers that the RS4's don't really last for an 8hr enduro. They also tend to overheat often and have trouble maintaining a consistent pace in the last half of their life, which the ECF seems to address.

The biggest take away is that these will wear like iron and will probably out last the RS4's. Will be interesting to see if Hankook replaces them with another endurance tire or an autocross competitor to fight the A052/RT660.

Also a lot of this could be marketing fluff. Won't really know until people get their hands on them and start driving.

Out last may depend on use scenario. He said he expected it to heat cycle out before end of life for HPDE use as well, so we don't know if it will take more cycles than a RS4 before you would want to replace it due to loss of performance. My RS4s are noticeably slower than they were when new, and they are not quite to the wear bars yet. The ECF sounds marginally quicker, but it should be for 30+% higher cost.

Maybe it's car/driver/setup specific, but I've not found the RS4s to be problematic with overheating unless you just overdrive them - but I've only done 20+ min sessions - not anything close to a long enduro session.

Looking forward to hearing some reviews from the end users. They do appear to be lightweight 23.2 lbs for a 245/40-17 vs about 25 for the RS4 IIRC.

That might be due to a 7/32 tread depth vs the 9/32 on an RS4. Or just down to tire construction. at 255/50/17 they come in at 24.3lbs which is very light compared to its competitors.

I do hope Tirerack reviews them.

I got them for the street. They’re fantastic but I don’t have much of a reference point for the track. Hoping to get in a track day in September.

They are pretty pricey... But looking forward to your thoughts on track

Exactly the reason I haven’t bought a set. Slower and maybe long wearing, but the Falken is still the best value out there

They're supposed to last longer than the RS4's and yet be much faster. We'll see when real testing comes out to confirm. The price point, in Canada anyways, is comparable to the falkens so if they last longer I'll be happy with them.

EDIT: Posted wrong thread.

They don't last anywhere near what the RS4's will last. I only have about 4 track days on mine and they might last two more. They are okay, but I am not really a fan. They struggle in high ambient/track temps.

You are on currently on RT660s right now if I read your other posts correctly - so you are saying those are not lasting as long as the RS4s? When I first read this I thought you were saying the new Conti ECF didn't last as long as the RS4s.
