dealership 4 hours away, bad for engine break in?
Hi to all! First post, long time lurker. I'm looking to preorder a BRZ from a dealership 4 hours away. Would it be bad to drive it home for 4 hours at freeway speeds off the bat? How's the break in on this engine?

Your biggest concern would be not varying your rpm diving at highway speeds. If you don't mind keeping the rpm low and varying your revs enough while driving it shouldn't do a ton of damage.

Vary your road speed and engine speed by shifting between 4,5,6 every so often, and you'll be find. Don't use your cruise control. Everything will be alright.

I second this. You may turn a four hour trip into a six hour trip, but it will be very much worth it. The backroads will give you ample opportunities to break your car in the right way, it won't be annoying like break-in driving on the highway, and you'll learn the characteristics of the car in its natural environment. Win-win-win, IMO.

I'm three hours away and plan to make it four hours back with many "back" roads.

I'm in a similar situation; if my car comes at the end of June or later, I'll have to drive 4 hours to pick-up my car, too. My plan is to travel on US1 instead of I-95 so I can vary the drive a bit.

nice answer. I'll have to look at the map before i head out, altho i'm planning on the limited so i'll have the navi!!!! i was even considering towing it back, but i know i'll end up driving it off the lot. i should find out later today if its going to happen. waiting on them to appraise my trade in. i wish i lived in a place where i had nice curby roads, but around here, everythings pretty much a straight shot, all desert.
