I just got a VX5000 steamer. I'm about to clean the shit out of the engine bay.

Johnson Wax Scrubbing Bubbles ( used to be Dow) works wonders and won't harm paint.. Get engine warm then spray on wait 20 mins and hose off. Better than Gunk

I know what I'm doing this weekend, thanks for the tips! Was looking for what not to spray. We used old rugged vehicles when i deployed, just spraying wildly in the engine compartment was fine haha. Don't want to take that risk with my personal vehicle tho.

Someone who has not covered anything before washing? Did you clean the alternator with a brush? My trusted detailer tells me that he doesn't cover anything and then blow dry.

Seems like water will collect on top of the engine.

I used a generic degreased and pressure washed. The water definitely collects in a bunch of channels on the heads. Hope your DI seals are good! I'd tarp off the block and pressure wash the bay, then mist everything and use a brush for whatever else

has been washing his engine bays of wrx, trucks, bmw, porsches by just spraying multipurpose cleaner and spraying the whole bay with a pressure washer without covering anything. Is it true modern cars have everything sealed well enough that the amount of water from this kind of spraying won't damage the car?
