Pure Auto's Swap Compilation Thread - 2JZ and LSX !
Follow This Thread, As Well As Our Swap Blog On Facebook.com/SwapYour86
First of all, I'd like to thank Photobucket for completely ruining all my other threads by asking me for $400 a year to host my photos to third party sites This will be our new compilation thread of everything new and swap related here at Pure. For those that don't know me, I'm Brady, the owner here and we have been in the 86 world since November 2012. We did alot of the first turbo and supercharger milestones and got involved in doing swaps in late 2013. We pride ourselves on making the engine swap as easy as possible for the end user. That unfortunately is the cheapest, but is the best way! Lets cover all of our swaps in the order they happened: My personal car/the shop car was the first to go under the knife and get the LS2 swap. The swap was very exciting to do, especially back then, when only a handful of people had even considered it. We used a primitive swap kit and made it work but had quite a few issues getting the electronics sorted. So after we found some decent mounting solutions to get us jump started, we pulled the LS2 and went to work! This is our MoTeC M130 Plug and Play Kit IMG_0817 by Brady Johnson, on Flickr You’ve Put a 2JZ into your 2013-2107 86 Platform, how are you going to make it run and still use all the factory functions and amenities of your car? After trying numerous methods of getting a 2JZ Swap to work in the Scion FRS/Subaru BRZ platform, buying multiple wiring harnesses with various issues, and spending countless dollars on other company’s “Solutions”, we decided to take matters into our own hands. Swapping a 2JZ into any car is not for the faint of heart. It requires a laundry list of parts to make it fit right, run right, and drive right. Physically putting the engine into the car is fairly easy using all of our swap parts. Buying Go-Fast parts for your 2JZ engine is pretty straight forward. But getting it to run in a car it didn’t originally come in, that is an entirely different issue. The FRS/BRZ electronic system relies heavily on CAN BUS. That makes it very difficult to make basic amenities, such as the gauge cluster, work with the swapped engine. Supras and other 2JZ cars output different signals than the FRS/BRZ. Many people have tried short cutting this, but it never quite works like factory. So how do you make it work? You find an ECU that’s intelligent enough to convert the swapped engine data, into something the car can understand! With our kit, you will be able to bridge the communication gap. We have teamed up with Obsidian Motorsport Group to develop a complete package that will make swapping your FRS/BRZ a breeze! What Factory Functions Do I Get to Keep? OEM Power Steering -OEM Electronic Throttle Pedal -OEM Gauge Cluster -OEM Wheel Speed Sensors and ABS System -OEM Fan Module Control -OEM Fuel Pump Module Control What does MoTeC offer for your setup? The real question is, what doesn’t it offer? MoTeC is the pinnacle of control and customization for your setup. Endless possibilities for customization await you. Everything from basic functions like boost control to fully customized traction control! We developed this kit on our first full street setup car. This is Donnie's car. He wanted a badass street car with all the factory amenities and that's exactly what he got. This car makes a little over 500whp with a 5 speed trans, stock engine, just simple maintenance upgrades, a 62mm turbo, and our prototype swap intake manifold! Here's some pictures of that swap and the swap video explaining how it all works! So essentially, all anyone would need other than the swap kit is the transmission, engine, throttle body (according to your website) and engine mounts? probably some fabrication to the trans tunnel as well I'm guessing? Very high level overview, but just to get the jist of things...

It was an R154, but if you're thinking of going 5 speed, keep in mind that those transmissions are not very strong. That customers car made 500 and ended up eating a couple gears.

@Pure Automotive Do you guys have a electronics package for the Gen V LT4? I have been collecting the hard parts but will need a MoTeC ECU to plug into a C7 harness. I found a few that are developed for the C7 as a direct replacement for the stock ECU, but I want it set up for the swap into my FR-S.

@Pure Automotive I wanted a factory built GM performance motor. I was going to go LS3, and turbos later. Doing more research I figured LSA would be a better starting point already built for a little boost. Supercharged, and a good candidate to turbo later. After more research I found the LT4 comes with forged pistons, more power, DI, and still built for a little boost, and supercharged. I didn't even look at the LT4 for a while because of the issues it had when it was first released. Looks like they got the early issues resolved, so it looks like a good option now. I think it's my best option as a starting point. Good power, and could handle turbos with conservative boost levels when I'm at that stage. Thanks for the information though. Excellent work on all your swaps they look as good as they perform.

New or used? Why not a built LS for the same price? My LS3 is rated for 10 less HP N/A and is Fully forged. A few of the good shops will even offer a warranty on the engine as well.

New it's a swap I don't want anything uncertain if I had issues at start up I would suspect the engine if it were used, or the builder if it we're a fully built motor from a shop. I might consider a fully forged unit from a shop but getting it to pass the ref in California would be impossible. At least with stock I have a chance. Your build is sick to @DustinS.
Let's let them have their thread back. |
