After looking into it, I think it makes more sense for anyone in this position that wants the new engine to just buy a 2017+. |

5 gallons or 5 quarts? 5 Gallons is way to much. The engine should hold about 5.5 to 5.8 quarts of oil.

Yeah, just realized my mistake. Meant to say quarts. But I guess, I was not expecting emptying a 5 quart container and not even get the mark on the dipstick to the max. Anyway, bought another container of oil and will be filling it up later.

It needs 5.5 to 5.8 so it is in the right spot on the stick with 5 already in it.

Finally was able to drive the car home and I am so glad that the swap so far turned well. Will be observing the car the next few days..
I discovered that someone stole my exhaust tips while it was parked while I was waiting to do this engine swap! |

Glad to find this thread as I'm faced with the same project. 2013 FRS needs a motor. Looking for a 15-16, glad to see they will drop right in as long as the harness is there. Now just gotta find a motor. Anyone have any reputable sources for used motors? California if possible.

A local reputable shop told me there are some subtle differences between the FRS and BRZ engines that it wouldn't be worth it to bother with a full engine swap between the 2. So far I haven't been able to find any differences between them though. Are there actually any differences at all between the FA20 on the FRS and BRZ and do they pose any additional challenges when doing a full swap (other than transmission)? |
