2020 86 GT New owner

Hey Guys,
I used to have a 2011 STI, I built it for speed and now I want to make my new 86 just look nice.

I would like to get coil overs in the near future, What brands at reasonable cost do you all recommend?

Also, I was would like to make the exhaust a little louder but no loud as a muffler delete. Anything you guys have tried and liked? either cat back, axel back.

Also Any cool looking things you guys have done so i can get an idea of what i like and may do to mine.

Being an old fart who doesn’t want his neighbours to hate him I went with a Gruppe-S UEL cat-less header and a JDL catted and resonated front pipe. The mid-pipe and cat-back remain stock. Also did an OFT stage 2 tune.
These changes woke up this car without roaring, more of an angry growl that sounds good onboard.
Can’t comment on coil-overs. I run TRD springs over Koni Yellows, double camber bolts and offset top hats with adjustable lower counter arms out back. Works well for DD and lapping sessions.
Perhaps we’ll meet at TMP one day.

Why do you want coilovers? What's the end goal with how you'll drive the car? For most people quality lowering springs are a better solution than cheap coilovers.

Yes a header will do wonders and catless I like but my mistake was going for cheapest deal on exhaust and that unfortunately got me the loudest with an invidia n1. Luckily I found a great muffler for my loud exhaust with selling my tomei uel header to someone in Ontario on the forum and throwing and sbd350 turbo on to quiet my exhaust a bit with an oft tune from shiv.

Haven't touched anything on suspension just put wider wheels and with stock perch I went to 245/40 on 9 inch wide with a cm of clearance and no rub on lock to to lock with steering wheel. That said once we get a track here I am going to have do some camber bolts for sure as my last set of falkens were on the steel radials on the inside before getting my new set of shoes.

Gotta get this boost controller dialed in and add timing backing to get some power back while watching the knock but need some dry pavement and good temps. Also have another change with failed TOB. So since I decided to change myself I now have a lighter flywheel in the mix and a stage 1 clutch. Gonna have to do a lot of pulls to get her sorted. Fun times.

You will still be plowing snow.
I had was also thinking of going with adjustable instead of lowering springs when I went from the 14 FRS (11/2" drop on RSR springs) to the 2020 86 at stock height. After driving the 86 through this winter I have determined that there is no real perceivable difference between the dropped car and the stock height one when it comes to snow plowing.
Since there is no real benefit I can easily see that I may raise it once but then it would become a case of "screw it it is more than it is worth" situation and it would just stay lowered all the time. For the difference in cost between springs and adjustable coil overs I just can not justify the advantages that I know I would end up not using anyway so springs it will be again.

Most coilovers can't raise the car back up to stock height, so that won't work at all.

You'll also need an alignment every time you adjust the height that much.

Like it was already said, even at stock height you'll be plowing snow and scraping on chunks of ice.

I am on my first winter with RCE yellows. The mild drop is perfect for a year round setup.
Springs gives you the option to swap to a bunch of different shock combos.

I had a set of "quality" adjustable coilovers, but I wasn't that impressed. They had a bit better damping behavior comparing to stock, but after a couple of years they started rusting in the spring perches. So, I couldn't adjust the height anymore. They sell the adjustability as a marketing term, but you usually install and forget them. I sold them and now I have a non-adjustable Bilstein '15 tS suspension together with the STI springs.

any chance u can share the model of coilovers you had? would be good to know which ones won't hold up to our canadian winters lol
