That's just new nomenclature for GT.

Not sure I am a fan of using it for all the models. If they have special input from GR, for a special version, with special GR gofast parts (like the Yaris) then OK it is a GR edition. If they are going to just slap GR on all versions (like they have with the Supra) it is a meaningless marketing ploy.

So kinda like BMW M? And Mercedes AMG? Cadillac V? Audi S-Line? Hyundai N-Line? Ford ST-Line? Damn, even ST (coming from a FoST, I have a soft spot for the ST badge)! It would be nice to have a manufacturer actually hold on to their integrity in the face of marketing, but somehow I doubt we'll ever see it again.

On the other hand, Toyota using GR only for the sporty lineup is almost saintly by today's standard. So long as there's no GR Sienna, I'll give them a star for the effort.

That's what TRD is for!

Yes. GR should be an actual RACE edition not just a badge on all of them.

Yes. GR should be an actual RACE edition not just a badge on all of them.

I can't help but think there was some disagreement/infighting within Toyota on what TRD is used for. It was hijacked by North America marketing for NASCAR and trucks, and the Toyota mothership was not pleased. Now we have two performance divisions.

The GR Yaris is a good use of the GR badge. It surpasses what you would normally see from TRD.
The GR badge on a base Supra (as good as the car may be) or 86 is just deception at it's finest.

I just can't get past 'TRD' reading "TuRD".. no idea why but I have this association.. GR is harmless although Gazoo is too much like Yazoo (80s electronic band and a milk drink)...

I have never associated TRD with anything but Gazoo was horrible.

I'm a fan of no extra names/emblems/badging for "hot" versions of cars.
