Some track musings and questions...

I plan to slowly optimize the FRS over the next couple years, budget permitting and would love to have some input on some question I have. I have quite a bit of seat time and envision being able to daily this car and take it to tracks on the west coast with no issues and nothing but a change of pads.

The idea is to do a GT3 -> GT3 RS or a GSR -> ITR if you will. So ditch 75-100lb, wheels/tires/suspension and NA bolt ons (30-50hp) a couple years down the road. The car is DD primary and as such I am not willing to compromise comfort too much (my last DD had a rollbar and Sabelt FIA bucket which I did not mind at all.

Priority #1 is brakes, local track is really hard on them (so bad that I have gone through a set of pads in one day on my civic). Im pretty set on the AP Sprint set. The 10lb savings, plus my personal experience with them has always been exceptional, whereas wilwoods were hit or miss. Obviously I would have a dedicated set of track pads/rotors, do not want to deal with death banshee wail pads on the street.

Question 1: Does anyone daily these and any issues?

I want to build around efficiency and minimalism. Typically low power cars can loose out on running too wide tires/wheels. I think GMR did a test where an RX8 or NC (can't recall exactly) went a little slower on the wider tire and wheel. This is perfectly reasonable, you are adding more unsprung mass as well as a wider contact patch that can scrub more speed. Im am planning on RPF1's and RS3's. I know this is borderline silly question with many variables coming in to play, but maybe someone has some input?

Question 2: Has anyone tested something similar to this? Ie. 17x8's with 225s vs. 17x9's 245's?

Also I think we should set up a sticky with shock dynos. So far not much on the market really interests me except the AST offering that Matt and Emilio gave their blessing to.

Tentative Plan:

Year 1:
AP Fronts
RPF's with RS3
Dump the easy weight (junk in the trunk, rear seats possibly, they are pretty useless to me)
10lb Battery

Year 2:
Coilovers
Smaller mirrors (Every time I look at them I think about how big the surface area on them is...they can't be good for drag)
Splitter and Lip Wing (no need to ruin the lines of the car for a casual track)

Year 3:
Bucket & Harness
Rollbar?

NA Bolt Ons, copy someones formula once they figure it all out, 30-50whp. I/H/E + tune.

Year XX?:
Clutch starts slipping, throw in something fresh and a lighter flywheel

That sounds awfully similar to what we've been doing for awhile.

1. I have ~5,000 miles of mixed use on by Sprint kit. No issues.

2. I run 17x8 RPF1s with 235/40s, but haven't compared them to anything else though.

Hey guys, I forgot to ask, can I get away with running no TPMS on track wheels or does this not allow me to turn off TC/SBC? I know some cars don't let you turn any aids off with the TPMS flashing.

I've learned to just ignore that light...

If you buy another set, Evasive can "clone" your original set for you.

Thanks, this is good to hear. I was lucky in that my 2008 Civic Si was the last year without the silly TPMS and electronic aids. After that owners weren't so lucky, no TPMS = can't disable any e-aids.

Sorry, I am a bit confused. What does this mean? Buy another set of what? Clone what set?

You can buy a 2nd (and 3rd and 4th, etc.) set of TPMS, and have them made identical to your original set, so the car thinks it sees the same set.

The car can only be married to 1 set of TPMS sensors at a time.
