Ghost Cam Idle
Hey everyone,
This is a wierd post, but if anyone has seen the ghost cam tune for the Mustang 5.0's its on the same thought train. So the 86 has dual vvti like the 5.0 mustang, ive seen people doing wierd things with their tune like causing pops and bangs at a certain load. Has anyone ever looked into using overlap through retarding or advancing the cams or whatever it is that is done with the dual vvti to create the idle of an aggressively cammed boxer engine. Would i have it on my car if it was possible? Probably for the laugh. Would i get bored of it? Probably after a while. |

i know here people in the GCC doing crazy thinks socially in the UAE . do you know how mach COST boxer engine repair ?? or how long it can hold of knock or misfitting ??
POPPING OR misfitting AT idle can happen if you retard intake VVT and advance exhaust VVT , reverse what it should be . that will make POPPING and knock activity about fuel cutoff misfire and make it by retard engine timing at max RPM and late firing the spark until the exhaust valves open and make a spark to fire the fuel in the headers BUT your engine will not survive more then 1 month so no now will Risk his car for fun socially with DI system and high pressure fuel system |

But that's not what OP is talking about. I'm no expert but I bet it would be possible to get some lope by holding the valve timing optimized for high rpm only, which is where we get that second torque bump.
I bet the engine would be practically useless up to about 4500 RPM. Maybe one could reserve that lope up to 800-ish RPM then have a quick transition back to factory timing above that. @KoolBRZ?

Yeah, similar to what you said, i dont know how its done on the mustang, but as soon as you get on the throttle, car is back to normal. Have they had issues, yes they have. But i just asked because it crossed my mind.

Our thoughts are on the two opposite sides of the globe, i dont know what you were able to interpret, but it seems you summarized everything i said in two words, and those two words were "bang idle".

Practically speaking, you would have to find the addresses for the data that controls AVCS at idle. The standard cam tables aren't in operation.
It shouldn't cause any issues though, but will likely use more fuel.

A friends's kid at work has a "cam" tune on his mustang. He said the cats needed to removed so they are not damaged by it. FWIW

After trying various changes to the vvt, I believe the lope is caused by something else, or in addition to changes to the vvt. I think timing, and fueling are also changed, and those aren't changes I'm familiar with making. In addition, there are changes that can be made to just one bank of the engine, but additional definition files would be required to make them on an OFT. So, I'm going to bow out of this attempt, and leave it to others to try.
