Did anybody notice in the GR86 reveal video in Japan everyone appeared to be wearing what appeared to be a plastic chin guard?

At first I couldn't figure out why since all otherwise appeared to be maskless. Then it ocurred to me maybe people that are twice vaccinated and fully immunized wear that in place of a mask so people know?

That's what I thought as well, but there is one shot where you can see the clear plastic guard attached to it.

@wbradley, it's just barely visible in this screenshot.

Only if you care about what others think. It's an interesting idea. Needs a way to open so I can scratch my face or blow my nose. I'd probably still pass.

My wife made a couple dozen masks for family and friends within the first weeks. I made a strong over-wire insert and asked her to incorporate it. It has straps over the back of the head like a respirator so no pressure on the ears. I can wear it all day. No fog. Great fit... ment.

It's basically a type of mask.

I think I read that the reason they've started using that is so people can see your facial expression and read your lips, basically.

I don't know if it's as functional as a cloth mask, though.

Thanks Dadhawk and spike. On a comical note, imagine that clear screen after some Sylvester the cat kinda talker does a speech in it.

It's bullshit like the shields people wear maskless. I'll do the supporting research later. Maybe some math.

I can't see those mouth visors being effective. Talking only, sure. But any cough or sneeze will disperse water/saliva droplets into the air.

Yea, looks pretty ineffective to me. At minimum ever time you open your mouth, your nostrils are exposed. I suppose technically you are still breathing down into it, but it would be ineffective for "inbound traffic".

I've seen people wearing similar things in the UK, the white plastic resting on the forehead. Not sure how effective it is as the bottom (around the chin) it's open.

Pointless. Doesn't cover the nose. Doesn't do anything meaningful as far as I can tell other than look silly.

When I said full face, I meant darth vader or a mandalorian or so. Not the silly stuff. Proper seal, cooled, fancy electronics, the works.

it didn't help the situation of course, but my coworker made it known that his choice was to not get vaccinated because he already had covid...

i told him "we've all got choices to make that affect everyone else. i have the choice to drive this van we're in into oncoming traffic lanes..."

"April 13 (Reuters) - U.S. federal health agencies on Tuesday will call for an immediate pause in use of Johnson & Johnson's single-dose COVID-19 vaccine after six U.S. recipients developed a rare disorder involving blood clots, the New York Times reported, citing officials briefed on the decision."

Would they really pause it over 6 people? I mean that can't be statistically significant.
