Jackson Radiator/oil cooler weight vs. stock

Greetings,

This relates specifically to STX autocross, but maybe someone in the wider group knows the answers. Basically the part is legal for the class is if weighs the same or more as the stock part. Bathroom scale weights to .1 pound are accurate enough.

What's the weight of the Jackson Racing Dual Radiator/Oil Cooler?
What's the weight of the stock radiator?

Thanks for any help.

#26786 FRS/BRZ Dual Radiator/Oil Cooler Clarification
The STAC is recommending an explicit allowance to utilize combination radiator/oil coolers which are
available for multiple popular cars within the Street Touring category.

Modify 14.10.L as follows:
14.10.L Engine cooling radiators may be replaced with alternate parts subject to the following
restrictions:
1. Radiator core dimensions (width, height, thickness) cannot be smaller than the standard part
2. Radiator must mount to OE radiator mounts
3. Fluid capacity and dry weight of the radiator must be no less than that of the standard part.
4. A replacement radiator may contain an integrated oil cooler provided the portion of the radiator
that is utilized for coolant conforms to the remainder of 14.10.L.

5. Installation of an alternate radiator may serve no other purpose (e.g. to allow a cold air intake
passage).
Given the capacity of the radiator is larger on the coolant side + oil, I don't think you'll have any issues with the weight being any less

Yes, my point is to get definitive dry weights, per item 3 on that list.

I can definitively tell you that weight won't matter based off the capacity increase of the radiator and oil cooler capacity.

https://jacksonracing.com/product/fr...toroil-cooler/

Weight and dimensions are on there, it's 17 lbs.

Regardless, I think money isn't best spent there. Get an actual air to oil cooler and call it a day for half the price and non-complicated install.

I really don't think that radiator is 7" thick, so I'd care to bet that 17 pounds isn't the dry weight of the radiator, it's the shipping weight of the entire kit.

Hopefully someone has weighed the parts.

It is heavier than stock.

I don't know the exact weights, but I've held enough of them to say definitively.

Add the weight of the additional coolant, and that alone would guarantee it.

Apologies for thread jacking... but since you "held enough of them", what's your take on them for a SC-ed track/race only car?
Enough or should I look into separate air to oil?
Looking to buy something soon, just can't decide as I am new to this car.
Thank you!

Thank you!
Buy the JR track oil cooler instead.

PM me to order; importing to CA from the US may cost less than you think.

Thanks for the first hand info, that's good enough to consider purchasing one. If I go that route I can weigh them myself and I'll post the weights.

Jackson Racing confirmed that their unit is both larger and heavier than the stock radiator. This means that it should be okay to use under current STX rules.

According to JR, the dimensions of their unit is 30x40x1.8 and weighs 6lbs. I don't have the specs of the stock unit.
