Glad to see you are still posting updates!

I'm surprised your not going to weld that oil pan yourself after seeing you make a custom hood scoop, build your own paint booth, the redneck hot tub, etc.

LOL,,, I can weld steel with a MIG OK,, just haven't gotten the hang of the TIG just yet. There is a welding shop close by which is good,, just takes forever to get something back.

Not too much to report as the last couple of months have been spent doing a bunch of different projects none of them being the FRS. I did get the oil pan modded and welded up. I’m also working on a different brake setup. I bought the ATS calipers for the front, still deciding what to do on the rear but a 4pot Wilwood system from RR Racing looks to be best at this point.
I’ve been obsessing a bit on the hood locks as of late. I continue to have visions of the hood blowing up and over the windshield. I need some kind of tether to supplement the locks.
I still have 3 weeks+ of vacation this year so I’m hopeful progress will be made. It’s looks pretty sad and neglected at the moment. LOL.

Pan looks beautiful. I can imagine how I would have agonized over the clearance issue. Well done, sir.

Normal life gets in the way. We'll be here to cheer you on as time permits.

I paired the ATS kit with '04 WRX STI rear calipers. Torque Solutions sells the brackets.

The remaining brake parts have come in. Originally I wanted the RR Racing rear kit but the 1.25 pistons were bigger than needed. Ended up with the Wilwood designed kit 140-12871. Comes with everything. 1.12" 4 piston calipers, iron hat, 12.8" slotted rotor, BP10 pads, SS lines. Good news was Summit did a price match so got it $170 off their regular price ended up at $1390,, so all in front and back just shy of $2200. Also got in front STI 12.8" rotor,,, good god these things weigh a ton. Would like some of those trick lightweight ones,,, but they are $$$. Below are bias numbers,,, real close to stock,, Note I measured parts to be sure (Pads, Pistons, Rotors)
Need to paint now,, fronts need a total paint job, rears just to cover logo,, just gloss black no logos on all.

It has,,, boat has taken priority for a while. Doing a rework on it, I've been doing a bunch of small things and then it goes out in 6 weeks for motors, 3 fuel tanks and new wiring. Everything will be new less fiberglass when it's done. When boat ships out car takes priority again.

How goes the build?

Considering following in your footsteps for a track build. Have been talking with Bill Dailey about dry sump pans.

If the sump were less depth, would it have been possible to set the engine any lower or would trans height and drive shaft angle have made it a moot point?

Humm,,, not sure you'd get to lower much as I'm really close to the crossmember,, but maybe an inch or so. The picture below will give you an idea,, it's only about 2" deep back where the block meets the trans. It's tight to the crossmember as well. There are a couple of track Miata' s that have dry sumps (if memory serves),, it still may be a better setup even at my height. To your second point trans height and angle could be an issue. I messed with angle for a while. Let me see is I have any other pics.

First pic isn't great but will give you an idea regarding snugness to crossmember. Second one will give you an idea of trans depth. You can see the parting line between block and pan.

As a sidebar,,, this is what's had my attention the last 8 months. Complete refit,, new 200 HP Suzuki's and all new controls/rigging, New gas tanks (3 tanks 220 gallons), rewired whole boat and new electronics. It's a sweet offshore rig.
