Hertz Chapter 11 Deals

Sad they went under but in the words of some politicians, "never let a crisis go to waste".

Their sales site had some interesting stuff like C7 Z06's and C63 AMG's that sold quickly but inventory changes daily. They'll be liquidating a substantial part of their 500,000+ fleet of mostly recent model year vehicles over the next few months.

Even if you're understandably reluctant to buy a high performance or any former rental vehicle, especially those I drove, a printout shown to another dealer or private seller should add to your negotiating leverage.

Inventory varies a bit by region. I picked Las Vegas thinking baller and found a C63 AMG with 11K miles for $42K, YMMV.

Thanks for the information.

Now WHAT could go wrong with a high performance, former rental car? -

I would rather buy a high performance rental car than a base model econobox. The costs to rent them would reduce the guys that get it just to beat on it. Be willing to bet that most high end rentals were driven far more gently than the people hanging out on a car forum would believe.

Maybe it is just what I looked at but, I saw nothing that looked like a great deal. They all seemed right inline with their KBB values.

This is in fact basically verbatim for what a former Hertz (or maybe it was another company, don't remember) employee said about these cars.

The people who rent these are generally middle aged men, starting their mid life crisis. They have the money to rent them, and are generally renting them to cruise around, not beat on.

Unlike some tat will rent a base Corolla and then take it down the tail of the dragon!

Agree that people who rented/could afford them probably drove them like they drive their own cars but they aren't anything to drop
what you are doing and run to buy. As Kiske said they seem like they are just priced to sell and in no rush.

Yeah, the rental price would tend to help weed out the cowboys/girls. That and the damage clause, although the C63 AMG I saw was fairly high mileage, almost 12K, for a year old car compared to most other 2019 standard rentals with about the same mileage.

Still worth a gamble since they're under bumper-to-bumper warranty and the prospect of saving over $30K on that year old AMG was tempting. I didn't look at much else.

At the rate they're selling, it'll take Hertz 18 months to spin off the remaining inventory that'll lower prices the longer creditors get anxious toward the next model year. Used will be a buyers market for some time, this is just the beginning of daily rental distress sales.

For instance, I can confirm that the pedal dance works as expected to allow trail braking in a 2017 Toyota Yaris.

Also Lexus GS300 something or other from about 12 years ago. But that was a student car in that instance.

I don't believe it works on TNGA cars because of the electric parking brake.
