catalytic converter shield
Hi all! It seems that catalytic converter thefts are on the rise in my area, so I'm wondering if anyone has a catalytic converter shield for 2nd gen that they recommend? Second question - has anyone had their cat stolen from a BRZ/86/FRS, or are our cars, for some reason, not facing this commonly? Thanks in advance for your answers!

the cat on the front pipe is not the main cat. the front pipe cat is a secondary cat and not worth too much for thieves to even bother
main cat on these cars are in the headers... thieves would have to remove a bunch of nuts and bolts and skid plates/splash shields to even gain access to it.. and even then its a tough cut because of it's location... not to mention having to jack up the car fairly high up due to the nature of the car.. no need to worry. theyre gonna target any truck before they think about targeting a brz |

Why steal a tiny cat from a car you would have to take the time to to jack up when there are huge ones you just need to slide under to grab?

Jacking these vehicles is quite a pain unless you have a quickjack. Cheaper option if you're super concerned is to get coils and lower the car about another inch. The trouble, if with OEM suspension, is the amount of time required to access the cat on the headers.

The thing is that people doing this are not known for t heir outstanding bravery so will pick on the easy no work required vehicles.

If you were to steal a cat and these cars were all available in one place, and you only had time to steal a cat from 2 cars:
-Lifted truck -SUV -small CUV -Prius -86/BRZ Which 2 would you choose? Cat thefts would be about quickness because do you want someone watching you spend time jacking a car up and then finding a cat and cut it out? Lift truck and SUV you can just slide underneath without jacking them up. A small CUV might require jacking up a little, a prius even more, but an 86 you'd have to jack up pretty high. |

The whole question (as you said) is why bother? which will you get more money for? This? Or this? I know where I am going to get them!
