I’m really surprised you felt that way about the Performance Pack! Not doubting you at all, just surprised. I need to drive a twin with the handling or performance package. The Brembos feeling spongy is really interesting. I wonder if they feel better with some heat in them? Maybe it’s the pads? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The PP shocks were similarly not bad, just a lot more uncomfortable for the small increase in low speed damping. |

I don't think anyone would ever pay $49K for a BRZ period.

And even then people are just applying exchange rates which is totally meaningless comparison and a fool's game. Values of products in a country to do go up and down with the exchange rates and $1 in one means it is $1 there not some arbitrary fraction/increase of that dollar compared to the US. If you want to use exchange rates then you need to apply it to everything including income and then you will get an apples to apples comparison.
The OP is in Malaysia so yes the car casts more but not sure where this $49K that keeps getting thrown around came from since he clearly said they were $39K.

Thanks! I missed that and thought everybody was off their rocker. Much more comfortable that it was just me.

Nah they’re no where near $49K here, even for the top tS model. 86 has a a similar price range. Price is drive away.

Assume we’re probably getting ripped off slightly . For example the prices of European cars over here would make your eyes water, we also have a luxury car tax on top of GST. 33% tax on vehicles above AUD $68K (every $1 above $68K has a 33% tax, ouch!) Porsches and those sorts of cars get expensive very quickly. I know it’s a big sticking point with the EU free trade agreement the government is negotiating, they see it as a tariff, which is fair enough. Anyway glad the twins are under the threshold and that we can enjoy a fun sports car at a reasonable price. Last edited by Dirty Harry; 07-24-2020 at 10:41 AM. |

We aren't "ripped off" in other countries because we pay more. The exchange rate is not a fair way to compare prices. If the Au dollar goes above the US one at some point does that mean that all of a sudden everything is cheaper in Australia because you apply the rate? Price are just different because the value of things and the LOCAl economy, not because you applied a US rate to it. The average income in Australia is $82,000 AUD and the average in the US is $56,000 USD. This would make the Aussie price for the car better deal when looking at percentage of income in local currency. As much as the Americans would like to think they can just compare dollar to dollar based on what theirs is worth at any given point does not make it even remotely accurate. The world's local economies and value of cash are NOT based upon the US exchange rate. The only time the exchange rate means shit is if you are paying in US$ and even then it only applies to the difference at that very point in time. Another reason it appears that the US pays less for things is simply there mass of population. They can indeed get things cheaper since sheer volume brings down the prices. It doesn't mean we are getting "ripped off" though. This is obviously one of my pet peeves because it is so often misunderstood and really shows much of the American attitude that the world revolves around them. I have news... IT DOESN'T.

Coming originally from a small European market, I can wholeheartedly say that cars in the US are cheap. However, the main reason for that is taxation, not volume. Most countries tax car sales and use (i.e. fuel tax) heavily (typically with special vehicle related taxes, not just higher Sales/VAT), while the US doesn't (although that varies by state, obviously). Also, in many countries sale prices are shown after tax, while US MSRPs are pre-tax, making US prices seem even cheaper by comparison. |
