in the end, i ended up being talked into these tires. After all, if they are good enough for the Cayman -- they should be more than enough for this car ! 225-45/17s all the way around and slight drop in mpg too i noticed. sucks a bit but grip is amazing.

What other tires have you driven on? I'm seriously considering these if I can get rid of my low mileage KDW2. I'd be interested knowing your thoughts on grip and DD-ability; are they noisy? Wet grip? Etc.

Wheel size: 17x9
Bolt pattern: 5x100
Offset: +30

If they fit the stock tires, does that mean the stock lug nuts will fit too? If not, how do I find out which aftermarket lug nuts to buy?
Rota grid 17x9.0 +42 5x100 is more ideal than offset +30 for this car, its been done already http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14934

A fine selection.

I'm going to dropping the car on RCE 20mm drop springs with a higher spring rate (OEM is 153lbs/in front and 131lbs/in rear, vs 250lbs/in all around) and adding new Whiteline front 20mm and rear 16mm adjustable sway bars (OEM is 18mm front and 14mm rear) with the adjustable end links. I'll also be running the Whiteline COMC tophats, front lower camber bolts, and new rear upper arm bushing with camber adjustment.
Nice setup.

I'm trying to decide if a wider wheel and tire is worth the additional weight and what, if any, change in the steering response will be present.
Yes, in my professional opinion it is worth it.

I'm also trying to decide if I should run staggered tire sizes as I think a wider rear tire might reduce the tail-happieness of the rear end.
Your call. Personal preference there.

12mm (+42 vs +30) won't make or break it. I agree +30 is playing it more safe. Depends on how aggressive the owner wants.

+42 is safer and he wont need to stretch tires, with offset +30 means it will stick out more than +42 by 12 mm.

Offset has nothing to do with stretching tires!. Please refrain from giving advice if you aren't sure how things operate.

I am aware of how +30 will stick out more, I've been providing professional advice throughout this thread.. Go back and take a look... Lol.. It is a personal preference and not right or wrong. Do you know how much 12mm is? It is less than a half inch.

Never said its wrong, but not everyone wants to do this setup.

This is how rota grid 17x9.0 +30 looks.

Yep...

You think 12mm is going to make it tuck inside the guard and take out three + degrees of rear negative camber?

Yes 12mm will make it tuck better under the fenders.

Lol. 12 millimeters is not going to make it that much better. You are completely missing the point.

It still needs an alignment.
It will still have three+ degrees of negative camber.

Take out a ruler and measure 12mm. 12mm isn't going to put it under the guard. It is aggressive at 30 or 42 because it's a 9" wide wheel!

But hey, at least you got over the tire stretching comment..

Grid 17x9.0 +42 on stock suspension, it allowed for a wider 245/40 tires, less stretch and tucks better as you can see.

You should research and study more. Seriously.

The offset didn't allow for a wider tire!! The alignment did. Offset has very little to do with tire selection. The lower offset wheel moves it further away from the suspension components.

Alignment is what make it "tuck". Not 12mm of offset difference.

The picture of the +42 is on stock suspension. Hence why there is not increased negative camber from lowering it... That is why it is tucked.. Not because of the +42. 12mm of offset is not going to negate 3+ degrees of negative camber because of the lowering spring causing the misalignment!
