brz track day high oil temperature question
I participated in a track day event at the weekend, the weather temperature was 77F (cloudy), after 5 minutes of intense driving on the track (due to the track design, most of the 2nd gear was used), the oil temperature went from 200F to 270F (Oil Cooler Sandwich Plate sensor read(DEFI oil temperature sensor),OBD interface reading is 250F), the water temperature is 212F, my vehicle is installed with perrin oil cooler and Koyorad Racing Radiator, and the oil used is redline 5w30. I searched in the forum, and it seems that the phenomenon of oil overheating after installing oil cooler is relatively rare.I found that Everyone's oil temperature at the track doesn't exceed 240F, so is it normal for my vehicle to be warm under these conditions?
Other tests: (1)I tried to maintain 6500 rpm in 2nd gear for a few minutes, and the oil temperature also reached 270F from 200F (the engine does not have any DTCs) (2)During daily city road driving, the temperature is stable at 194F: the oil temperature is 194F (Oil Cooler Sandwich Plate sensor read), and the water temperature is also 194F |

Something's not right. Maybe the sandwhich plate (being thermostatic) is stuck.

I used hks oil cooler-na before(The temperature is still very high after changing the perrin oil cooler), I also suspected that the sandwhich plate (being thermostatic) was working abnormally, I took it out and tested it with hot water, after testing I found that they work well

Are you boosted now? Where do you have the oil cooler mounted? I’ve seen oil temps up near 270 before on my car NA w/oil cooler. Much higher ambient temp though. I moved my oil cooler from the lower tray to the crash bar. Gets more direct air flow. Do you have a hood duct?

I’d say the defi gauge is not reading right. I see about 200f water temp with my koyorad. My Innovate gauge was showing 220. 250f oil temp from your OBD2 is not bad. I typically see 230-250 depending on ambient temp. My temps dropped a lot after moving my oil cooler up. I noticed mounting it to the lower tray masks a good amount of it.

I would trust your OBD reading of 250 and that is not bad. Where are you reading oil temp from your other gauge? 270 pre oil cooler is not terrible ether.

The Perrin oil cooler in my experience is usually not sufficient for track driving, if you're carrying any kind of speed or higher RPMs.
Jackson Racing bare minimum (which has ~50% more cooling), GReddy preferred (~125% more cooling) |

I installed a defi oil temperature sensor at the Oil Cooler Sandwich Plate, and then I saw using the defi gauge.I saw the information on the Internet, it seems that the maximum working temperature of 5w30 is 266F.

I installed hks oil cooler before using perrin oil cooler, the official description of hks mentioned: "This is a cooler for racing", hks has 15 rows of coolers, it seems to be more than greddy, but in mine There is not much difference between the temperature of hks and perrin on the vehicle, and there is still a problem of high temperature.
