From Jalopnik:

When I asked if the GR Corolla’s warranty will cover track days, a Toyota spokesperson didn’t respond with an outright yes or no, but instead said that the company “covers responsible driving at track days.” They elaborated to say that it’s not about voiding a warranty, but “about individual responsibility.”

Toyota Canada seems to have released a sort of
"contest" to win the opportunity to buy a Morizo edition.

https://www.toyota.ca/toyota/en/corolla-morizo-survey

If buying a GR Corolla is turning out to be a first come first served situation, perhaps this is another way to jump the line.

1) stop going on Jalopnik. That website is horrible and any worthwhile information is easily sourced from better car news sites.

2) What did you expect them to say? they're not going to carte blanche say it's all covered because you know there will be some idiot that blows his engine on coilovers and R comp slicks and then goes to Toyota to cover his warranty. They're going to cover track use, but not abuse or failure that can be traced back to aftermarket modifications.

1) Sadly I agree, though I think they're recovering a little. I wish I had more time in the day to read The Autopian. It's the distilled essence of what made Jalopnik a good thing back in the day. Definitely an acquired taste though.

2) Pretty much just don't do engine mods or money shift and they'll probably cover whatever blows it up. Also, if no money shift you will likely never blow the engine anyway. Especially the G16.

I take all news sites with a huge grain of salt. In this case they are simply reporting on what Toyota rep was asked by someone from The Drive, I could've easily visited that website, and gotten the same quote.

Wasn't really expecting anything, just simply, in a way, sharing info. I for one, think that unless a company specifically tells you "You can go fck some shit up at the track and we got you covered" I wouldn't expect said company to cover me were something to happen. Which is counter intuitive, of course, when Toyota themselves offer a membership and showcase their vehicles as track tools.

All in all I think Toyota's position is fair, yes the GR86, and GR Corolla are showcased as track-ish vehicles, but the user is on its own if a driver drives like a moron. If it wasn't the driver, but it was a component that shouldn't break with responsible track use, they'll cover it. Completely fair by me. Which goes in hand with tracking a vehicle without warranties; do proper maintenance, prep, driving, and you should be fine.

That is the crux of the matter right there. In everything they have said they are very specific to exactly what "track" events they will warranty. They are all Toyota sponsored. No way they are just going to ever make a blanket statement of "Ya we will cover all events no problem go kick the shit out of it".

Yep, I think that their position is fair, I guess 50% of something is better than 100% of nothing.

This type of advertising is not new.

Most people would crash and die if they tried to take an early Corvette on a track

And the dealers would point and laugh because you broke it on purpose.

this happens all the time around me.

today, it was an early-2000 honda pilot and a 2010+ equinox, both hovering at 15-20 under the 35mph speed limit.

i'm really starting to question if a pit maneuver really counts as an 'accident'...
