I took a nice long drive in the Santa Cruz mountains today. Fun. Boy did I feel rusty.

I still love California and wouldn't necessarily want to move like @Sapphireho, but I gotta admit it's tempting to think about going someplace like Denver (well, the surrounding area), where COL is way cheaper and I could get a house with a nice backyard for Haru. Move even further east. I'm definitely not landlocked. In fact I have too much water around me for my taste... But it is humid...

For us, it was more a decision based on life expectancy and income. My hypertrophic cardiomyopathy isn't getting better, so wanted to retire as young as possible. Cashing out on our San Jose house and moving out was the only way.

I did encourage our kids (32, 31, 27, and 20) to get out of California, and they all did, and I think they are better off now.

Probably too far east for me, I don't love humid weather.

Ahhh, right, that's fair. I think there's still enough I like about CA that I don't feel the need to leave. But it's definitely a possibility eventually.

Hm dunno. Maybe another accident around there? Not sure why else they'd shut it down except for a cycling event or something, but it's a weekday.

Northern Maryland or further north isn't bad. Some elevation helps too, but you are further away the coast typically. But it's either humidity or Winter on the East Coast. I'd take Winter any day personally.

You got a few months, might be interesting to check out the possibilities.
