FWIW Car and Driver's test of the "15 Cayman indicates the GTS does, indeed, have a sound symposer (tube). Not sure why it matters, but I put some stock in what I read there.

Good to know. But further research seems to indicate that only the GTS has that feature.

Has little to do with the above argument! 😜

I dunno how you can say the engine is more isolated than the BRZ. The engine air intake is literally less than 2 feet from your head and the engine physically is less than a foot from your body/head. More isolated??

I'm not saying it like it's bad. Cayman is just really really refine... you basically only hear just the right amount of the noise. *insert thousand hours of oem testing*

PS: It was a 2012 Cayman R

Owned a Supercharged S2000 for over 10 years. Best bang for buck car. It's a shame to see them in such bad shape on the road. I feel like the BRZ is it's cousin. Both cars feel great.

For the prices they command on the market as well for the AP1/2's is insane the few remaining unmolested ones will reach NSX cult status values in the next couple of years.

Don't forget the low point also during the recession. That's when it seams a lot of kids got there hands on them. In result the whole stanced scene and hella flush.

if you were to buy a brand new cayman what options
would you get, if you were to pick only one which is the best to get?

- sport chrono ?
- active suspension?
- torque vectoring?

By active suspension do you mean PASM or PASM + PDCC?

Sport chrono honestly seems kind of useless. If I had to pick one option it would probably be PASM. There's already a LSD so torque vectoring is just icing on the cake, and PDCC saps horsepower from the engine (unless they have gone to electric pumps on the 718). PASM takes suspension tuning out of the question; it is basically the perfect damper paired with reasonable spring rates.

PASM only NO pdcc since its manual transmission, (but cayman already has good suspension why did they make this an option = more $$$)

with sports chrono you can tinker with the engine???what does this option really do

Absolute base model, no options, or a GT4 with PCCB.

Add PDK to the base model if you're in traffic-heavy daily driving.

Or a 997.2 S/Turbo.

Sports chrono definitely doesn't give you more power, I think it just gives you the clock and a couple "race car" features. I don't really recall what it had.

I have not sat in a car with semi-active or active suspension before so I don't really know how much of an improvement it is over a very good passive damper. I do know that Acura used to use active dampers on the MDX, then switched to a fancy triple valved passive damper on the new MDX, and I thought the suspension on that car was exceptional.

As far as the engine goes, the NA engines were electronically limited so that they produced 10-20hp less than they could have, plus they were choked with smaller throttles and intake plenums. I don't know what they do with the new turbo 4, which has more power. Not sure I would even try to upgrade the power, unless it has some truly horrible tune.

The sports exhaust is a stupid option too IMO, unless you really want the button (which is admittedly kind of fun). The stock exhaust is rather quiet, and the sound insulation is very good, so you can just get a louder exhaust.

PCCB is probably worth it if you have the money and go to the track, that's as good as brakes get and you lose a ridiculous amount of weight.

I believe SportChrono tightens up the shift times on PDK-equipped cars, has a launch feature and a few other vehicle dynamics type features/benefits as well. Everything I've read says worth it on PDK cars, but not so much on a manual car.

In Porsche world that's not that expensive! Wheels are like 3-4k a set, the PDK is >3k, the X51 package on the 911 is 11k, a lithium ion battery is 2k (you can get an equal sized one for ~700 if it's not Porsche branded), seats are 2k, etc.

If you want aftermarket carbon ceramic brakes, they actually run more than that IIRC.

The typical Cayman or Boxster sitting on a lot has 15+k of options added. The only options I actually want would be PCCB and PASM (cooled seats is a nice feature, but those electric adjustment seats are so heavy :/), and that adds up to less money than the average car on the dealer lot.
