Extended Warranty?

I got a quote from my dealer for extended warranty: $1600 for 7 yrs 100k miles with zero deductible. Do you guys think it's a good deal?

Extended warranties in general are a ripoff. Do some research online regarding who the provider is, what it covers, and how likely/unlikely you are to actually see ANY benefit from it. $1,600 in present value equates to a lot of repair work 5+ years in the future. I personally refuse to purchase them on principle, but to each his own. These companies are in the market to make a profit, and generally make it extremely difficult to approve a claim, requiring substantiation of ALL service records and other misc items that will irk you to no end if you ever need their help.

I bought an extended warranty on my old Subaru. Saved my ass as I had an engine AND transmission replaced under said extended warranty. Both issues happened after 60k.

In general, this is true.
On the other hand, Subaru Gold plus warranty (which is really close to b2b warranty) might be worth it.
Few things however:
-shop around. 1700 is what an extended warranty with the same specs will cost on an STI. N/A should be cheaper.
-you can buy it an any point before basic warranty expires (36mo/36k)
-you can buy it from any dealer.

Check pricing at credit unions as well, I got one on my Town & Country for $600 that was better than the $1400 one the dealer was pushing. Never used it but for $600, good insurance. I won't buy one on a Japanese car though, they just don't need them! Unless it's $600

Third-party (that is non-manufacturer) extended warranty is usually junk no matter what the price is.

If I purchase it later(before 36mo/36k expires), will it be generally more expensive? I worry about getting this (Gold Plus) is because the cost of labor is generally more expensive in the Bay area.

Thanks for the input.

Unlikely. If BRZs are breaking down left and right between today and 3 years from now - they, of course, might increase the price. Other than that - the price is the same regardless of mileage if the car is eligible.

Toyota/Scion have extended Factory warranties.. THOSE are the ones to get. You can wait to get it though as you have until the last month or 1000 miles before the limit to purchase one. Also it can be purchased from any dealership os shop around.. Don't go for the third party warranties..From every article I have read.. they suck..
