High Plains Raceway track day
Hey guys. This is my second track event that I recorded and this time the video is not corrupted! Yay! haha
Here are the links. Run #3 is where I really started to push it which caused me to go into short little drifts unintentionally a couple times. Run 1: I suck! lol [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KB7Yp-QpK5M&feature=vmdshb"]First run High Plains Raceway! - YouTube[/ame] Run 2: Getting better [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkJT0ZLtIAo&feature=vmdshb"]Run #2 High Plains Raceway - YouTube[/ame] Run 3: OMGWTFBBQ I need to get better still! :P [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DlZn_HQB75Q&feature=vmdshb"]Run #3... slides and drift! :o - YouTube[/ame] |

You live in the Colorado area? I'm a motorcycle roadracer, we're out there 5-6 times a year, awesome track.
How did you brakes hold up... any mods in that dept? |

I have another thread somewhere here that describes my car better but basically:
I upgraded my brakes to Stoptech slotted rotors, stainless steel lines, high temp brake fluid, and HAWK HPs brakes in the front, stocks in the rear since they didn't have any available at the time. I blew through my front brakes and had to stop in the afternoon. My rears are ok, but as of right now I'm waiting for replacement race pads for the front and Hawk HPSes for the rear since there aren't any race pads available for the rear yet. I'm gonna go back to blank rotors for all four since they're cheaper. Slotted is not really needed in my case since I only go maybe once a month. Plus, I know a guy who races a V8 Miata who gets blanks for 25 bucks a corner from NAPA lol. He said blanks are fine, especially if you have race pads. High Plains is a pretty active track it seems. You run every thirty minutes, so you get a lot of track time. I'm gonna bring a spare set of pads next time, just in case. |

yeah, it's a track that seems to be hard on cars brakes. I'm a bit nervous about the braking system, will likely upgrade to a BBK when there are a few options available. So even with the pads, fluid and lines you still had quite a bit of trouble w/fade?

I did not have any problems with brake fade on this particular track. It's not as technical as Atlanta Motorsports Park... THAT track is very technical. On HPR, you still have enough straights to cool the brakes enough to keep the fluid from boiling.
But most importantly, a race pad has a lot more friction and therefore you do not have to use it as much. The heat transfer is better and the grip and great. I don't know if a big brake kit would be good for this car, that's just more rotational mass for it to overcome when under power. If anything, just getting better calipers would improve stopping power. A BBK would only be good for this car if it was putting out like, say another hundred horses. I wouldn't waste the money on a BBK unless you end up getting a turbo kit or something. |
