Everything you need to know about weapons in Canada can be found in the forums with some digging. Lots of stuff for sale. The main guys are good to filter out the true nut cases and you'll find some very knowledgeable people willing to help you make the best choice.

So as of today... my application has gone through initial processing!

Based on what I've been reading on Canadiangunnutz I won't hear anything further until fall at the earliest.

On kinda of a lever journey now... recently got a used Marlin 30AS from early '90s in 30-30 Win and modded/rebuilt to a more modern multi-role gun:

Can run it just open sights (Skinner winged/ghost ring rear with .6" high x 3/8" wide front), with an M21 holographic and Holosun laser (as shown), with a long eye relief 2-7×32 pistol scope, or with a night vision scope. Have only put 60 rounds through it so far, but have it currently zeroed for 50yards and it is the most fun have had shooting.

What currently have incoming is a decade old Miroku/Winchester 1885 high wall BPCR Limited Series Target single shot lever rifle in 45-70. Will be reloading with good higher BC 405grn to 600grn bullets for it since factory ammo for 45-70 is quite expensive ($3-$4 per round) and usually only FN bullets in 300-405 grain range. Only change am doing is adding an MVA Soule rear sight and globe front sight to it... will look similar to this one:

Here it is both naked and with the Burris pistol scope in scout configuration (need to get it zeroed @ 100yards):

Really like it with the Mepro M21 and Holosun laser since it's quick acquiring and absolutely nailed steel gong as quick as could run the lever. Should work fine to about 100 yards and with Burris scope should be good to about 200 yards. For anything past that my inclination would be using my new lightweight precision bolt rifle, the Sig Cross in .308:

Something I got in the other day, modern version of a classic:

humfrz probably remembers when the original version was introduced...

It's the Winchester 1885, specifically a High Wall .45-70 Govt. BPCR Limited Series Target version built by Miroku for Winchester about a decade ago. Have custom Soule style rear and aperture w/level front sights currently being made for it by Montanna Vintage Arms (MVA) which should be done within a month. Will have nearly 290MOA elevation and 90MOA windage adjustment available if I should ever want to push it long range... will be working up hand loads for 405gr FN and 535grain Postell cast bullets once I harvest the cases from some factory PRVI .45-70 I have coming in. Might just have to get a scope for it in the mean time...

One of my buddies just picked up a Cross. They are very nice, surprisingly light for as stout as it looks. Pretty sure it is lighter than my Ruger precision rimfire. He just has an ACOG on it now till he gets a new optic for it.

They are listed as 6.5lbs from factory for the .308 version with 16" barrel. Without scope, mine weighs in @ 7lbs 9oz with Masterpiece Arms EVG grip, MDT ACIS 10rd metal mag (4.1oz heavier than the stock Magpul 5 rounder), Magpul quick release socket mount, bipod mount, & full compliment of grip panels on all four sides, and Precision Armament Hypertap muzzle brake. Add on the Hawke Frontier 4-20×44 scope, low Leupold PRW2 rings, and Kinetic Development Group SIDELOK rail it weighs 9lbs 8oz. That's quite a bit lighter than the Savage .308 action/24" heavy barrel in an MDT TAC21 chassis it's replacing (which comes in @ ~15lbs). Switched from fixed rings to the new quick release system & lower rings so could have option of switching to nightvision scope when needed.

The fixed 1" Leupold Backcountry aluminum rings that were originally on the Sig Cross can be used with 1" to 3/4" delrin spacer inserts on a vintage WW2 style M1903A4 rifle sniper scope (Hi-Lux M73G4) for mounting on the 1885 Winchester before the Soule sights come in. Should be a decent and robust enough optic and a look pretty good paired with the 1885 I think - not an out of place aesthetic like a fully modern scope would give.

Also just got in the 45-70 Govt. 535gr postell bullets... here's a size comparison of one with a .308 Win 168gr Hornady Match BTHP bullet...
