I'd sure love that referenced STI baffled oil pan but can't find it for sale anywhere. (ST11109Z2000) Maybe OP Rainy, or anyone else, knows where to purchase it?
im in the process of trying to source one. a few japanese retailers said they can get it for me, but so far, 2 of the 4 that i have contacted have said they cannot order it directly from subaru/sti and it has to be purchased through a motorsport shop that has a cup car being built, which can lead to complications and extended ETA's.

it makes sense considering its not on the japanese sti catalog despite that catalog having other performance oriented parts

ill keep everyone in the loop with the sti oil pan. i was hoping to have an answer by this weekend, but its OBon in japan right now, so everyone is out on holiday. ill likely know sometime next week

Good point, can't be overstated.

You see people talking about how they'd never take their car to a "stealership" for service, why does anyone think dealer service centers are anything but crap, etc.

Dealer service centers are like everywhere else: some good, some bad, and within every one there's techs that are better/worse than others. The best mechanic can have a bad day.

IMHO you don't take a car to a dealership to get the best possible service. You take it there to get warranty repairs done at little/no cost, and you take it there to avoid them using where you took it as an excuse NOT to cover it under warranty.

If you want to be certain it's done right, do it yourself or take it where you trust that it'll be done right. Might be a dealership. Might be a buddy.

But if it's not the dealership you may find a bigger fight waiting if you need something done under warranty. If you're going to void the warranty anyway, sure - do whatever you like.

Use the right tool for the job is what you need to keep in mind.

We had a tech so good at the MC shop I used to work at, the mfg service reps would come out and watch him work and ask him questions about book times and procedures. He was eventually hired by Yamaha.

....he also eff'd up on occasion, being human and all.

Thought I'd add mine to the mix. 22 BRZ. I found a little bit of debris on my dipstick before the oil change, unfortunately forgot to snap a pic of that.

Dope - I put the order in for the Greddy unit but curious to see what shakes out with the STi part either way. Do you happen to have a lead on that Cup hood vent?

the one from the GR cup car? nope. aero parts for the cup series, although have regulations, are typically not sold unless it's made by a company who also makes it for public street use.

id imagine of you purchase a cup car from toyota, they'd sell you parts for it, but i cant imagine toyota offering race aero for street cars

Sorry for the delay, i had family in town for the past couple weeks thus the delay in surgery of the oil filter. Below are pics of my factory oil filter that was changed out @ 1k miles.

- There are definitely silicon of all colors (green, red and grey) in there.
- The grey colored were rarer but larger in size.
- When i drained the oil, the kitchen strainer that i used was fine enough that it should have at least caught some of these pieces if there was any. But the strainer didn't catch anything.
- Was driven like a granny since break in. Maybe 20% throttle and no more than 4500 rpms.

so oil flow is related to engine rpm. if rpm's are so low, there's a question of whether there's enough flow to either break off chunks, circulate them to the filter, or get them to the places where they'd be visible, and also get them to the places that could cause damage...

This statement is true.

If this was the case, there is no need for an oil filter at all. I am sure there was enough flow to carry the debris/contaminates to the filter even at the "granny" aka, normal driving rpms. Plus, any higher pressure and the filter will go into bypass mode anyways. I will likely do the same with the oil filter of the 2nd change and the car will be opened up then. Can always report back then but it will likely be next year.

there's also the condition of the sealant-- temperature cycling, as well as conditions it was installed in

tldr: sealant is a horrible way to seal a motor
