This has probably been asked a million times, but I've seen both yes and no in my research. Is it safe to powder coat RPF1s? I've heard the sandblasting actually ruins the wheel and makes them more susceptible to bend, breaks. and cracks when driving. I have also seen people say that's not true and its fine to powder coat them.

As I understand it's fine to powder coat any wheel, including the RPF1, providing they're not forged, which the RPF1 aren't, because the heating of forged wheels makes the metal brittle. Of course with normal day to day use it's probably not important but for racing and high stress use it might be.

Thank you! I don’t plan on going to the track anyway!

Not too sure if this helps or not. My right side wheels have been sand blasted and powder coated. One of my powder coated wheels has a bend in it from what I assume to be from a pothole. While my left side non-powder coated wheels don’t have any type of damage from potholes.

I had two rpf1s repaired and blasted/coated, they were fucked up to begin with but i already managed to bend them again on only a handful of track days. I do drive the car decently hard and I bounce off curbs so that doesn't help.

Bent from just driving over curbs on track? I had impression that rpf1 are strong enough to handle that :/

Oh, they are. I can attest to that with 10000 plus track miles on my current set.

anyone tried some of the cheaper, non-Enkei RPF1 center caps that I see on amazon or ebay? nearly 100 bucks for a set of official ones and that seems excessive imo

I'm using 2 sets of these. One on my winter set and another on my track set.
