My bad, I spoke about taillights. Just realised based on the below post

Be aware that the VLand light output is absolutely horrible and they only allow H7 bulbs. Any changing of the bulb will require a custom retrofit. It looks cool though, so more power to you if you don't care about the light output!

Not sure that this is correct.... The ones I have are decent light output and are compatible with D2S base HID lamps.

I can confirm this through a friend who is also running a set of Vlands.
You should be running them with a D2S bulb. His feedback is positive on light output. Some adjustment may be in order.
Overall quality is on par with the cost. They're inexpensive headlights.

He mentioned having issues with the turn indicator flickering on and off at times. Possibly a ground issue, or some internal wiring short.

I'll be getting these headlights in soon. I just wanted to confirm that the OEM D4S (Xenon) BRZ bulbs will not fit, and I will need to buy H7 (halogen) or D2S (Xenon) bulbs, but D2S are obviously better, right? Do they plug into the stock harness, or do I need an adapter? I'm naive about bulbs. How are these bulbs compatible, or can any bulb be used? Do they have the same mounting shape only or what? There seem to be a lot of different D2S bulbs from $40-200; what's the difference?

Also, I'll be running the OLM vertical DRLs. What brightness should I buy to match the color? 5k, 6k?

You have factory HID's?
The factory D4s uses a different housing yes. D4S harness is different from a D2S system, so a D2S bulb won't work on a D4S harness. They are not electrically compatible.
More info if you're curious

My friend is telling me the D2S housing fit just fine in Vland's headlight. h7 housing looks to be different from a D2S housing. It's possible he bought aftermarket D2 bulbs which had adapters for a H7 housing or Vland built in notches for both. I cannot confirm that. He doesn't know much about bulbs to give me info I can source.

The OEM BRZ headlights are HID.

I believe the kit comes with harness adapters for FRS, BRZ, old and new, but I didn’t know if I need to buy new bulbs or if the stock bulbs work. From what others say, the housing on the VLand headlights fits H7 which is halogen or D2S bulbs which is Xenon/HID—not the OEM bulbs. Well, maybe OEM for the FRS.

I just want to confirm before I try to install these.

I’m going to try to make the OEM D4S bulbs work by modifying the tabs like this link mentions.

Quote:
All of these bulbs have the quartz envelope and arc positioned in the same place – so any D-series projector can use any D-series bulb by bending/cutting out the indexing tabs. For example, if you buy a AL Gen2 projector from an Audi but want to use aftermarket D2S bulbs + ballasts, just bend down the key tab! Please don’t use D*S bulbs in reflector headlights as it will effectively be a high beam and blind oncoming traffic

I think you'll be ok. The green retaining ring on the Vland lights has various little tabs so I think will probably work with both D4S and D2S.

I know it's only been 2 weeks but just curious as to whether you got the d4s bulb and ballast to fit?

I will be picking up the bumper this Friday and starting to assemble the bumper/headlights this Saturday. I'll make an update by Monday if you check my build. I'll try to remember to comment here too.
